Alumni Rise

JOSH MARVIN pitches to Dylan Elder, while Matt Matuszak plays at shortstop and Travis Smith catches during a Saturday doubleheader between Sweet Home High School alumni and high school baseball players, which included some players up to age 20. At left, the two teams shake hands following the games. The alumni won the first game 8-7. In the second game, the alumni held a 1-0 lead most of the game, said organizer Chet Elder. Brandon Marquez hit a two-run homer to give the high school team a 2-1 lead. The alumni tied the game, but Elder’s son Tyler Mengore hit the ball to second and scored another son, Dylan Elder, on an error to give the high school team the win. The doubleheader raised about $175 for the baseball program. “Everybody I talked to had a blast,” Chet Elder said.
