SHHS Sports Banquet Tuesday

Sweet Home High School’s Booster Club will hold the annual Senior Sports Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Senior Center, 890 18th Ave.

Rob Younger, retired SHHS football coach and teacher, will be the featured speaker.

Younger taught for 30 years in Sweet Home, from 1980 to 2010. He coached for 35 years, starting in 1987 when the Huskies were state champions, and taking over as head coach in 1988.

He also coached softball and basketball, totaling 59 seasons in various sports. He was league Coach of the Year eight times. He won the 2007 Power of Influence Award from the American Football Coaches Association. In 2009, the Oregon Officials Association named him Coach of the Year.

Younger resigned from SHHS in 2010 to become assistant director of the Oregon Coaches Association.

Doors open at 6, with dinner served at 6:30, the speaker at 7 and the awards ceremony at 7:30.

The meal will be catered by The Point restaurant. Cost is $10 per person. Those who want to simply hear the speaker and witness the awards presentation can do so for free.
