The city of Brownsville entered the holiday season this weekend with its annual Festival of Trees, a spirited community-wide effort supporting local businesses and organizations.

As many as 26 Nordmann fir trees were decorated in various themes and placed on display inside businesses and organizations downtown where visitors were invited to place a bid for their favorite tree.
It was an opportunity for individuals, business owners and clubs to show their artistic flair, as well as an opportunity for visitors to browse downtown shops they may never have been inside before.
The decorated Christmas trees included themes such as “Christmas at the Cabin,” “Candyland,” “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Victorian Punk” and more. Sweet Home’s P.E.O. Club also joined in the fun, decorating “There’s Snow One Like You,” which was on display at the historic Moyer House.
The trees were auctioned off over the course of two days, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6. Proceeds this year benefit the Brownsville Community Library and Sharing Hands food bank.
Hosted by the Brownsville Women’s Study Club, the event kicked off the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce’s Home for the Holidays weekend festivities, which included the city’s tree lighting, a holiday lights contest, craft bazaars and, of course, pictures with Santa.
