Sweet Home’s girls and boys faced some of the top swimming teams in their divisions in a home meet Friday, Dec. 19, the girls finishing second to Marist, 92-81, and the boys third with 73 points behind Philomath (92) and Marist (87). Also competing in the meet was Junction City.

“It was a great meet,” Coach A Jay Bronson said. “The kids fought really hard. We had one swimmer out on the girls side and if she was there, we would have ended up winning.”

Sophomore Khloe Sautel was a double winner for the girls, in the 200 (2:03.04) and the 50 (25.30) freestyles.

Lexi Rundel also posted a win for the girls, in the 100 Backstroke (1:10.35).

Sophomore Grayson Savri won the 50 (25.80) and the 500 (5:51.96) freestyles for the boys.

Andrew Tolman also finished first for the boys in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.79).

“We had some phenomenal time drops” Bronson said, noting the junior rookie Ethan Hernandez  broke 30 seconds in the 50 Freestyles and sophomore Emma Whitton dropped her times in both the 200 and 100 freestyles.

The girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Sautel, Lexi Rundell, Kylie Melkvik and Emma Whitton also finished first in 2:00.2, while the  boys team of Henry Jones, Austyn Hogan,Tolman and Savri won the 4×100 Freestyle Relay in 3:45.61.

“All of our returners are really stepping up and proving their leadership skills, which is incredible to see,” Bronson said. “Our newbies are learning and coming along and are definitely going to be contributors, come districts.”

The Sweet Home Alumni Green and Gold Meet will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26. The Huskies will host more big names in swimming – Marshfield, Molalla, La Grande, Hidden Valley, Henley, Cove, Cascade Christian, North Bend and Newport on Saturday, Jan. 3, in the Peargin Plunge invitational, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

“I’m excited as to how the season is progressing and looking forward to seeing all the alumni at this Friday’s meet,” Bronson said.
