Grady Knurowski won the individual district title and East Linn Christian’s boys finished second in the Special District 2 golf championship Monday and Tuesday, May 11-12, at Salishan in Gleneden Beach.
The Eagles shot 344-349-693 to finish behind Blanchet Catholic, which came away with a 331-333-664.
Knurowski, a sophomore, shot a 2-over 75-73-148 to place ahead of Salem Academy’s Finn Dunn, also a sophomore (77-83-160) and Santiam Christian senior Brendan Fitzpatrick (77-85-162).
“Our guys battled through two rounds at a tough course at Salishan,” Coach Jayce Boyd said. “Grady really managed his game well and minimized the impact his mistakes had on his score. He won by 12, which was surprising, and showed just how good of a test everybody had.”
Rounding out the Eagles’ scoring were Liam Medford, who shot 90-88-178 to finish 15th, Parker Caddick (92-93-185) and Dailey Kirkpatrick (87-98-185), who tied for 20th, and Anderson Kropf, who was 35th with 97-95-192. All are sophomores.
“Liam broke 90 for the first time this season with an 88 on Day 2,” Boyd said. “Dailey had one of his better rounds of the year with an 87 on Day 1, and had a lot of potential in his second round.
“Anderson and Parker both showed a lot of grit on Day 1, when they both made close to 10 stroke improvements from the front nine to the back.”
Pleasant Hill was third (349-346-695), Regis was fourth (355-349-704) and Santiam Christian was fifth (357-359-716).
“With us only beating Pleasant Hill by two strokes over two days, it really illustrates how much every shot matters,” Boyd added.
East Linn plays this week on Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, in the OSAA 3A/2A/1A state tournament at Tokatee Golf Club in Blue River.
Bandon, which won the team title by 49 strokes last year, is going for a three-peat, led by returning juniors Sevren Quinn and Braedon Millhouser, who tied for sixth last year.
