Ever wondered what really sets a Sheriff’s Office apart from a Police Department? What happens behind the scenes when someone dials 911? Curious about how the jail operates?
If you’ve ever wanted an inside look at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, this is your chance. The department will hold its annual Citizens Academy, which gives citizens a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with the people who keep Linn County safe.
The nine-week program is open to any qualified, interested resident 18 or older (16- and 17-year-olds may apply if they attend with a parent or guardian), running from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evenings, Sept. 15 through Nov. 10, as well as one Sunday.
The program includes a field trip to the firearms range and Animal Control, a chance to meet deputies and specialists from every division, get classroom instruction, and learn all about patrol, investigations, corrections, firearms, defensive tactics, narcotics, dive recovery, search and rescue, the District Attorney’s Office, and much more.
Classes are taught by the same professionals who do the work every day, so participants can expect an atmosphere that’s both informative and genuinely fun. Ready to see what the badge is all about?
