USFS hiring firefighters for 2027

The USDA Forest Service is hiring wildland firefighter positions on the Willamette National Forest for the 2027 season.

A variety of positions are open for individuals to support fire operations. Jobs include fire engine operators, handcrew supervisors, fuels technicians, senior firefighters, and entry level firefighter positions. Applications are open through Sept. 22 on USAJobs.gov. Positions are open in Sweet Home, Detroit, McKenzie Bridge and Westfir.

The lone Sweet Home opening is a forestry technician (fire/fuels) position, which is also open in Detroit.

Other positions based in Detroit include:  supervisory and fire engine operators in Detroit; senior firefighters in Detroit; handcrew assistant supervisor in Detroit; lead forestry technician (Hotshot/handcrew squad leader) in Detroit; forestry technician/senior firefighter (handcrew); forestry technician (fire/fuels) and wildland forestry aid.
