Richard Arthur
Dec. 23, 1937 – Oct. 20, 2026
Richard Eldon Arthur, 88, of Sweet Home, passed away on Oct. 20, 2026.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1937, to Ernest and Blanche (Trento) Arthur in Bend.
He moved with his family to Sweet Home in 1946 and graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army in 1961 and 1962, where he spent most of his time driving freight trucks in France.
In 1968, while driving a logging truck in southeast Alaska, he met his future wife, Sharon Tyler. They were married on Oct. 24, 1970, in Sweet Home. They spent their first winter in Canyon City before moving to Petersburg, Alaska, the following spring. They stayed a total of 16 years in Alaska (Zarembo Island, Woodpecker Cove, Glennallen, and Kake), mostly in logging camps.
In 1987, the family, which now included Amy, Rick and Adam, moved back to Sweet Home where he continued driving a logging truck.
In Alaska, Richard loved to hunt moose and goats, fish, scuba dive, and pan for gold. After moving back to Sweet Home, he got a few beef cattle and a couple of horses. He enjoyed trail riding and haying in the summer. He spent many hours keeping his old tractors and haying equipment running. He especially loved being with his family and researching his ancestry.
Richard is survived by his wife Sharon; his children, Amy (Neal) Philipsen, Rick (Janelle) Arthur, and Adam Arthur; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Juanita; and his brothers Bud and Jim.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Cornerstone Fellowship, 1234 Long St., Sweet Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
