Brooke Elder led the Sweet Home girls basketball team to a 60-21 victory over Douglas at home on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

“Tonight’s game was awesome because we got to display the hard work of these girls,” said head coach Erika Evans. “We did the little things well, played great defense, were unselfish, and converted on the offensive end. Our entire community finally got to see it in action.”

Last year when they faced Douglas it was a close three-point win for their only victory of the season. This time, the Huskies dominated from start to finish, led by Brooke Elder, who scored 22 points.

The game carried personal significance for Evans, who shares a decade-long friendship with the Douglas coaches.

“We emphasize the relationship side of basketball in our program,” Evans said. “It was special to compete against them, knowing how much they’ve influenced my journey.”

On Thursday, Dec. 13, Sweet Home hosted seventh-ranked Cottage Grove at home, and  struggled to find offensive rhythm and fell 45-25 to the Lions. Evans said she remains optimistic about the team’s continued growth and determination.

The Huskies (1-3)  will play on the road Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Estacada and will host No. 4 Molalla Thursday, Dec. 19,  at Mollalla.
