Sweet Home beat the No. 2 team in the league Thursday, Oct. 22, in a home volleyball match that was a turnaround from the close scores the Huskies have come out on the short end of for most of the season.
They took care of Cottage Grove in three games, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 at home in one of their best performances of the year.
“We decided to play amazing,” Coach Mary Hutchins said of her team’s first win at home. “We played the way we played Junction City earlier this season – lots of energy, the whole team working really hard.”
Sweet Home came from behind in two of the games.
“It’s nice to reverse that two-point score in our favor,” Hutchins said. “It was a quite an effort. The Cottage Grove coach was very complimentary after the game.”
Ally Tow led the Huskies with eight kills, with Kayley Lopez adding five, along with seven blocks, and Madisen Barringer three kills and four blocks. Josie Knight turned in five blocks and the back row came through big, Molly Fisher contributing eight digs and Lola Wingo five. Kelsie Olhausen and Barringer each had four.

Against the Bulldogs on the road Tuesday, Oct. 13, Sweet Home played well for a game and a half, Hutchins said, losing 25-12, 28-26, 25-18.
“The first game, we did not play well at all – we came out really flat,” she said. “The second game we played really well, then we didn’t play well in the third game.”
Tow led the team with nine kills, and Lopez had eight, along with seven blocks. Knight and Rebecca Wooley both added five blocks.
