Albert Preston Yates

Albert Preston Yates

September 30, 1945 – November 3, 2024

Albert Preston Yates, 79, a long time resident of Sweet Home passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He was born to Levi and Nila (Jellison) Yates in Albany.

Albert was truly loved by many and had a heart of gold. The type of man that would give a stranger the shirt off his back or his last dollar. He was a devout Christian, who had a passion for sharing his love for Jesus and attending church regularly. He also enjoyed shopping at second hand stores, collecting knives, pocket watches, making lamps for his loved ones. He liked cooking and dancing every chance he would get. Sweet Home residents may remember him as the guy who used to ride his scooter around town, or for his commitment to doing everything for his wife, from walking down to Dutch Bros to get her coffee, or getting Sunday breakfast at the Vets Club to walking across the highway to Thriftway to get essentials.

He is survived by his wife, Selma (Bliege) Yates; brother, Ken Yates; sister, Vicky Wiley; four step-children; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; among numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Melissa Yates; brother, Stanley Yates.

The family is holding a small private celebration for Albert. Donations can be made to Selma Yates,  Wiley Creek Senior Living, 5050 Mountain Fir, Sweet Home, Oregon 97386. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.
