Alberta Mae (Birdie) Pickett, 86, of Sweet Home died Jan. 19, 2012 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Corvallis.
She was born April 10, 1925 in Spokane, Wash., to Lester and Mary Miller, one of five children. She married Loyd Elmer Pickett on June 13, 1946 and soon afterward moved to Sweet Home. Together, the Picketts raised four children, cared for several foster children and ran a local logging company.
Mrs. Pickett was very active in the community, but her greatest joy was any activity involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her Belgian waffles were the highlight of every camping trip.
She was involved in Eastern Star and volunteered with the local Meals on Wheels program.
She is survived by daughters Doris Lawrence of Sweet Home and Lucinda Bartek of San Diego, Calif.; sons Robert (Bob) Pickett and Michael Pickett; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Loyd; daughter Victoria; and great-granddaughter Daisy Stafford.
