Alice Louise (Ohling) Moran, 84, of Seal Rock and formerly of Sweet Home died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Salem Hospital.
Born March 29, 1931 in Salem to Merrill D. and Odell Brown (Savage) Ohling, Alice was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. She attended the University of Oregon and received her bachelor’s degree in education, and began an elementary teaching career first in Vernonia and then Sweet Home.
She married Carlton G. K. Moran and together they raised their three children. After retiring from teaching, they moved to Seal Rock. Carlton passed away in 2007.
Alice was active at the St. Francis Church in Sweet Home and then St. Luke’s By The Sea in Waldport. She devoted her time to PEO in Sweet Home and Newport, the Seashore Literacy Center, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Alice had a very strong passion for patriotism and shared that in many ways through her work with the DAR.
Survivors include daughters Shannon Totten and husband Doug, and Meegan Forster and husband Monte; son Kevin and wife Cindy; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces Sandy Taylor and Cathy Wells LeBlanc.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister Sara; brother Merrill D. Ohling, Jr .; and great-grandson Jeremy C. Sawyer.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at St. Luke’s By The Sea in Waldport. A celebration of life at her Seal Rock home will follow the service.
