Lebanon’s girls competed last week in the Mid-Willamette Conference districts, with Alison Frey reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated.
Frey, a junior, beat South Albany’s Adeline Winter 6-3, 6-3 in the second round after a first-round bye, Callie Bennett of Corvallis 6-1, 6-4 in the third, then fell 6-4, 6-2 to Leah Trinidad of Crescent Valley in the quarterfinals.
Senior Haley Destowet beat Olive Doeliinger of Central 6-2, 6-3 in the second round after a first-round bye, then fell to No. 2-seed Yixin “Suzie” Liu of Crescent Valley 6-0, 6-0 in the third round.
“Overall, all the girls played really well,” Coach Endya Robinson said. “Alison and Hailey were both placed up against girls from Crescent Valley and they still gave it their all and played hard throughout their whole matches.”
In doubles, Greta Abbott and Daniela Sanchez-Guzman, both seniors, beat Emilee Esparz and Vanessa Cortes of Woodburn 6-3, 6-1 in the second round after a first-round bye, then fell 6-1, 6-1 to Molly Arnett and Kaydence Fletcher of West Albany.
“Daniela and Greta also were up against the No. 2 seed and were still able to battle against them and get a few games,” Robinson noted.
In singles, senior Anne Workman fell 6-1, 6-1 to Silverton’s Diane Gonzalez-Campos in the first round.
Senior Gwyn Wheeler lost to Woodburn’s Yuleni Rubio Lopez 6-3, 6-4 after a first-round bye.
Senior Jane Gonzalez and freshman Sophia Vo fell in doubles to Payton Taylor and Kara Stucky of Silverton 6-1, 6-0 in the first round.
Brooklyn Davis and Emma Wright, both sophomores, fell to Ameyalli Carlos and Alyssa Garibaldo of Woodburn 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.
Valeria Ortiz and Kadence Volkers, both sophomores, fell 6-2, 6-3 to Betzy Trapala and Azule N. Nvila Cortez of Woodburn in the second round after a first-round bye.
