Allen L Henderson

July 31, 1942 – October 24, 2023

Allen L Henderson, 81, passed away Tuesday, October 24th after a 40-year struggle with multiple sclerosis. He was born on July 31, 1942, in Lebanon, to Allen and Doris Henderson. He attended North Eugene High School and graduated from University of Oregon.

In his younger years he worked for Skipworth Detention Center and for multiple parks and recreation departments in different cities including as the director of Parks & Rec in Corvallis. He was also a Realtor & Broker for Town and Country Realty in Corvallis. The tail end of his working career he became city manager of Brownsville, followed by City Manager of Lebanon, until his disability forced him into early retirement.

He enjoyed watching and attending University of Oregon sports (especially football, basketball and track) and has always been a very proud Duck. He had his pilot’s license and flew his own plane quite a bit on weekends. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping, woodworking, building model classic cars and trains, the Oregon Coast and spending time with his grandkids and reading to them every opportunity he had. He also always loved his animals (dogs and cats) and had a soft spot for rescues over the years.

He was one of the toughest and strongest people you could ever meet and somehow managed to keep pushing through his condition each day with a very strong constitution and attitude towards living. He married Sandra L Henderson on July 24, 1965 in Eugene, OR. They raised 3 children in Corvallis, OR, before eventually settling in Lebanon.

He is survived by his son Brian Allen Henderson of Salem, daughters Stacy Lynn (Steven) White of Palm City, FL, and Barbara Ann (Aaron) Rund of Albany, OR, and brother Leon Henderson of WestFir, OR. Grandson Parker Allen Rund of Albany, grand-daughters Payton Lee Ann Rund of Redondo Beach, CA, and Sadie Henderson White of Palm City, FL, along with his great grandpups Ollie Dean and Cooper Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra and his parents.

Our family would like to give a very special thank you to his grandson Parker Rund for spending the last 8 years of daily dedication caring for his grandfather. We would also like to give special thanks to our wonderful caregivers Virginia Sorenson, Kelly Soleman and Susan Marchant for everything they have done for our dad to improve the quality of his life. We would not have been able to have our dad at home for so many years without you special ladies!

Donations can be made in Al’s name to a charity of your choosing or to Al’s favorite charity – Safehaven Humane Society of Tangent, OR.
