Alyssa Logan was named queen of the Sportsman’s Holiday Court Thursday night.

“I feel very excited and very proud because I worked hard for it, and I feel honored to be queen,” Logan said.

All good friends, the girls were competitive with each other, she said. “We wanted to win, but we were proud with whoever won.”

Ella Butler was named First Princess and Miss Congeniality.

“I feel excited,” Butler said. “I didn’t expect to get anything.”

She said she was happy that Logan won.

“She’s one of my close friends,” she said. They’ve been friends since the second grade.

During the coronation ceremony, each princess gave a speech and answered an impromptu question. The decision was also based on raffle ticket sales and participation in events.

Her favorite part of Sportsman’s Holiday and Sweet Home Rodeo are the calf scramble and the parade, said Logan, who got to participate in the scramble on Saturday night with other members of the court.

She remembers watching the parade when she was little, how she wanted to be like the princesses and queen then; and she loves watching the children chase after the calves during the rodeo.

“I love how our community comes together,” she said, and that’s what Sportsman’s Holiday shows.

She added that “if I didn’t win tonight, I would come out a winner still because I was able to have the great and fun experience of being on the court.”

During the impromptu question, she was asked where she sees herself in five years. She said she will be at college, preferably Oregon State University, where she will study to become an elementary teacher.

Logan also had the distinction of selling the most raffle tickets, 1,059 out of 3,178. As an award, she will receive a $530 scholarship and $50 cash.

Logan is the daughter of Tami and Neil Nightingale of Sweet Home. She will be a senior at Sweet Home High School

The remaining members of the court are Dany Petermen, Tracy Smith, McKenna Burnett and Allison Rice.
