On Nov. 23, the Sweet Home Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops will canvass their neighborhoods for non-perishable canned goods to help replenish the community food bank for the upcoming holidays.
Last year, Scouts in Oregon and Southwestern Washington collected more than 361,000 pounds of food to benefit local hunger relief agencies.
Sweet Home Scouts will be in full uniform and collect canned food items from 9 a.m. to noon.
For convenience, persons may drop off donations on Nov. 23 at Sankey Park near the flagpole between 9 a.m. and noon.
Suggested donation items include peanut butter, tuna, beans, soups, chili, pasta, rice, vegetables, fruit and macaroni and cheese. Also welcomed are donations of paper household products, laundry, dish and hand soap and school supplies.
“This is a worthwhile service project deserving the entire community’s participation,” chairmen Jeff and Robert Rice said. “And we hope that you make the time and effort to help those in need in our community. It is also a wonderful learning opportunity for our young people to learn about compassion for others. Thank you in advance for your support in this community wide effort.”
