Feb. 12, 1931 – July 24, 2008
Archie L. Mays, 77, a resident of Sweet Home for over 60 years, died of natural causes in Bend on July 24, 2008.
He was born Feb. 12, 1931 to Claude and Clara (Edelman) Mays on Feb. 12, 1931 in Brownsville. He grew up in Sweet Home, and lived there most of his life, moving to Crooked River Ranch in 1995.
He married Jeannine (Carson) Mays in Lebanon on Feb. 20, 1952. She survives him at Crooked River Ranch.
Mr. Mays drove log truck for several years, and then worked for Willamette Industries for 25 years as a mechanic, servicing logging equipment. He retired in 1995. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond, Crooked River Ranch men’s golf club, and a 50-year member of the Sweet Home Elks lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and making wood crafts.
Survivors include his daughter, Suzanne Mays of Salem; son, Brian Mays and his wife, Michelle, of Salem; two grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Benson of Mehama.
Mr. Mays was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and three brothers.
A public graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
