Area fishing report

Willamette Zone

South Willamette Zone Fishing Information

* STOCKING: The following lakes are scheduled for stocking in the North Willamette Watershed District the week of June 10: Collins Lake, Harriet Lake, Silver Creek Reservoir, Timber Lake, and Trillium Lake.

The “salmon-steelhead bag limit” has been increased to include one additional adipose fin-clipped steelhead, in those areas open to steelhead angling, through July 11.

CLACKAMAS RIVER: The river is a little high, but it is in great shape. Anglers are catching a number of summer steelhead and spring chinook from Dog Creek to River Mill Dam.

WILLAMETTE RIVER: The river is in great shape. Shad fishing has improved in the Oregon City area, and anglers are still catching a few spring chinook.

LAKES and PONDS: Collins Lake, Harriet Lake, Silver Creek Reservoir, Timber Lake, and Trillium Lake will be stocked this week with legal rainbows.

Mid-Willamette Area:

SANTIAM RIVER: Over 62,000 spring chinook and 20,000 summer steelhead have passed the falls at Oregon City, putting a lot of fish into the upper Willamette system.

SOUTH SANTIAM: In the South Santiam, both steelhead and chinook are being recycled from Foster Dam back downstream to Waterloo. Angling has been good in the lower reach of the river, but off and on in the upper reach. Early in the week, the flow out of Foster Dam is up from last week.

NORTH SANTIAM: There are also a lot of fish in the lower and middle reaches of the North Santiam, with fair success being reported from the Mehama area and downstream. Passage at the Bennett dams

(Stayton) picked up a little last week, so fish numbers are increasing in the upper river as well. Steelhead are being recycled back down to Mehama or John Neal Park on a weekly basis.

* DETROIT RESERVOIR: Excellent fishing for trout. The lake has been stocked several times this year, and it is scheduled to be stocked again this week. The reservoir is at full pool, so all boat ramps are open.

* BIG CLIFF RESERVOIR: Will be stocked with rainbow this week.

FOSTER RESERVOIR: Continues good for trout. Bass and bluegill are also available, primarily along the face of the dam and around the peninsula at the east end of the lake. Foster was stocked last week

with legal rainbow trout.

GREEN PETER RESERVOIR: Has been producing good catches of 12-14-inch kokanee. Best results have come from trolling at 30-50 feet.

* BREITENBUSH RIVER and NORTH SANTIAM above Detroit Reservoir continue to provide good fishing for rainbow trout. Both of these streams will be stocked again this week.

* ROARING RIVER PARK POND east of Albany will also be stocked this week.

South Willamette Area:

* STOCKING: The following are scheduled for stocking in the South Willamette Watershed District the week of June 10: Big Cliff Reservoir, Breitenbush River, EE Wilson Pond, Junction City Pond,

Leaburg Lake, McKenzie River Lower, McKenzie River Upper, Mid Fork Willamette River, Roaring River Park Pond, Salt Creek, and Santiam River North Fork.

* McKENZIE RIVER from Leaburg to Bellinger will be stocked with legal trout. Turbidity levels have dropped to a level that dry fly fishing is possible. Good catches of trout are being reported.

Both the McKenzie below Leaburg and the Middle Fork Willamette below Dexter are producing a great opportunity for fin-clipped salmon and steelhead. Many limits are being caught by anglers from boats and bank.
