Linn County Republicans will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Pop’s Branding Iron, 901 Pacific Blvd. SE, Albany.
There is no purchase requirement. District Attorney Doug Marteeny will present Linn County crime data for 2016 and state Rep. Sherrie Sprenger will report on the legislative session.

SH Trails meeting,
hike this month
Sweet Home Trails Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Spoleto’s Pizza, 4804 Hwy 20, Sweet Home.
The topics will cover trail connections, the Oregon initiative, plans for group hikes, and trail maintenance.
Suggestions/input will be accepted through email.
The first group trail hike at “The Peninsula” on Foster Lake will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. Parking will be at Calkins Boat Ramp (Hwy 20 and Quartzville Rd).

Love Thy Neighbor free acupuncture
Home Sweet Home Cafe will provide free acupuncture by Dr. Mari Goldner at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, as part of its Love Thy Neighbor services.
The acupuncture is free. Goldner is a physician with the Corvallis Clinic Sleep Medicine Department.

Ham Bingo benefit April 8 at SHHS
A Ham Bingo will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Sweet Home High School Cafe-teria.
Every bingo wins a ham. The whole family is welcome to attend. Minors must be accompanied by a parent. There will be door prizes and raffle drawings. Concessions are available.
The event is sponsored by SHHS SAFE Committee, SHHS Forestry Club and Calapooia Critters 4H Club.
Cost is $.25 per card per game or $20 for all night (4 cards).

Squarenaders plan gospel music dance
The Sweet Home Squarenaders will hold a “Gospel Music Square Dance” from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Oak Heights school gym, 6th and Elm.
The square dance caller is Jim Voll and the round dance cuer is Jackie Gale.
A potluck will be at the break.
Suggested donation for adults is $5 and youth is $4.

Pinwheel Garden
at SHPD April 8
Sweet Home Police Department will plant a Pinwheel Garden at the Police Department at 11 a.m, Saturday, April 8.
Pinwheels will be available for sale for $1 each starting April 1 at the Police Department. All proceeds go to the ABC House to assure Sweet Home kids get too their assessment appointments by providing gas cards or transportation.
Walk for a Child event is right after the planting of the Pinwheel Garden. The SHPD will escort the walk from the police department to Safeway and back.
Wear blue clothing to the event. Bring strollers, wagons and bikes and walk in support of safety for all children.

Search and Rescue
meeting April 10
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting young men and women, ages 14 to 18, to join the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team and participate in a 10-day summer training program June 17-26.
Those who are interested in becoming an integral part of the Sheriff’s Office search and rescue mission should have an interest in community service and a desire to be a part of a highly trained and professional life-saving organization.
An application process will include oral interviews, a background check and physical aptitude test. Applicants must attend one recruit meeting at the Sheriff’s Office on April 10, or May 8 at 7 p.m. to attend the academy.
The training will include classes in wilderness survival, shelter building, search tactics, first aid/CPR, map and compass reading, rappelling and many more topics.

‘Chocolate’ dinner for women April 11
After 5 Connection will present dinner and a special program, “Showers of Chocolate,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at The Lobby, 661 S. Main Street.
The special program will be Kelly Reetz from Lebanon’s Victorian Chocolates who will share his expertise on the making of chocolate candy. Marlene Hall, soloist of Lebanon, will perform.
Guest speaker Gale Lakey, of Brookings, will discuss how the past hurts the present and how she cut loose her baggage to break free from a pattern of negative choices.

Blood donor event
in SH April 11
Blood donors are needed during the month of April. Donors of all blood types are needed this spring. Donations will be taken in Sweet Home 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Evangelical Church.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. class at LBCC
Linn-Benton Community College is offering a class “Making Dollars and Sense of Your Business Financial Numbers” starting April 12.
A free orientation will be held Wednesday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at the LBCC Luckiamute Center, room LM-115.
The five-week class will meet every other Wednesday, from 1 to 4 p.m. beginning April 12.
Class provides practical, real-world training in the essential financial scorecards to help participants achieve goals, objectives, and bottom-line results. Participants will learn how to focus on numbers that matter to avoid problems, recognize opportunities that affect profitability, use basic scorecards to measure results, save money, and gain perspective in planning.
Cost is $495. Discounts may be available.

LBCC plans Career Fair April 12
Linn-Benton Community College will hold a career fair from 10 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, in the Activities Center gym, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W., Albany.
More than 90 businesses, industries, and agencies will provide information on careers and employment opportunities. College advisers will be available to answer questions on career and technical training programs.
Be prepared to ask questions, distribute your resume and complete applications. Employment, training and staffing agencies will be on hand to inform job seekers about their services.

Modern dance
at OSU April 14
NW Dance Project will present an evening of contemporary dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Oregon State University in the LaSells Stewart center, 875 S.W. 26th St.
Tickets are $25 and $30 for main floor seats and $10 for limited balcony seating; all seats are reserved. Free tickets are available to currently enrolled OSU students, one per person. Easter egg hunt
April 15 at Sankey
The 26th annual Sweet Home Easter Egg Hunt will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Sankey Park.
The free hunt is open to kids 10 years old and younger. The Easter bunny, Sweet Home Rotary Club members, the Sportsman’s Holiday Court and the Sweet Home Junior High Interact club will hide over 3000 candy filled eggs. A number of eggs will contain special prizes from A&W and McDonalds.
The park will be divided into separate egg hunting areas for different age groups. The event is sponsored by the Sweet Home Rotary Club.
5K run/mile walk to battle abuse
Lebanon Police Department and Dala’s Blue Angels will host Walk-A-Mile-For-A-Child/5K on Saturday, April 15 to raise awareness to prevent child abuse and neglect.
The 5K starts at 8:45 a.m. and the mile walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lebanon Justice Center.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the walk. Lebanon schools and all children 5 and under walk for free. All proceeds will go to the ABC House in Albany.
The walk will be led by McKenzie Anderson of Albany, Lebanon Strawberry Festival Court princesses, and Gus, the Lebanon Police Department dog.
Also involved will be the Lebanon Fire Department, KGAL/KSHO and more.
The walk/5K will end back at the Justice Center, where a ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Chief Frank Stevenson, Mayor Paul Aziz, Honorable James Egan and other dignitaries will speak on behalf of child abuse prevention. There will be a dedication ceremony in honor of Karly Sheehan.
Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, April 7, is chicken pastina or broccoli omelet bake, mixed vegetables, Romaine iceberg salad, multigrain roll and butterscotch bar.
The menu on Monday, April 10, is pasta primavera or beef cabbage bake, country trio vegetables, garden vegetable salad, Caraway rye roll and vanilla pudding.
The menu on Tuesday, April 11, is hearty chicken stew or scalloped potatoes and ham, chuckwagon corn, country coleslaw, white dinner roll and chocolate chip bar.
Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
