‘The Outlaw’ free
movie at local mill
Movies at the Mill presents a series of classic films on Thursday evenings at Scroggin’s Mill, 280 W. Sherman St. in Lebanon.
This week’s movie is the 1943 western “The Outlaw,” on Aug. 2.
Movies are screened on the side of the mill, so shows begin when it gets dark, generally about 9 p.m. A food vendor will be available.
Admission is free but donations are appreciated. Movies are made possible with a grant from the Linn County Cultural coalition.
Celtic music Friday

Marks Ridge Winery’s summer concert series continues on Friday evenings through August at 29255 Berlin Road.
Dinna Fash Celtic Trio will perform contemporary and traditional Celtic music on Aug. 3.
Bring your own picnic or snacks and enjoy open-air seating at bistro tables or bring a chair or blanket.
Cover is $10 per person. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Glass artist Cindy Conder of Corvallis and metal artist Lori Garcy of Brownsville will be feature artists at a First Friday reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Gallery Calapooia, 222 First Ave W. in downtown Albany.

Free Advanced
Directive class
Beginning in August, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital will offer free monthly classes for anyone with questions about how to fill out an Advanced Directive form.
The first will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 in conference rooms 1 and 2 in the back of the hospital, at 525 Santiam Hwy. SE, Lebanon.
Hospital Chaplain Wes Sedlacek will lead the classes, helping people complete their own form during each session. Drop-ins are welcome but registration is requested either by visiting samhealth.org/SLCHAdvanceDirective or contacting Sedlacek at (541) 451-7129.
OSU’s ‘Bard’ to
feature ‘Tempest’
Oregon State University Theatre’s Bard in the Quad returns this August with the Shakespeare romance, “The Tempest.”
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. nightly Aug. 2-5 and Aug. 9-12 in the Memorial Union Quad, 2501 S.W. Jefferson Way, Corvallis.
“The Tempest,” set on a strange and distant island, features Prospero, a sorcerer and rightful Duke of Milan, who conjures a storm to bring his usurping brother and various conspirators to his shores in an attempt to restore his daughter to her rightful place in the royal court. The tale features sprites, monsters, young love and intrigue.
Bard in the Quad performances are held outside and no seating is provided, creating a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to bring low lawn chairs and/or blankets, warm clothing and food if desired. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m. and no one will be seated prior to that time.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for OSU students. Fate 55 to play at
The Point Sunday
The Point Summer Concert Series presents Fate 55 on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 6305 Highway 20 in Sweet Home, next to Foster Lake. Performances start around 6 p.m. Fate 55 has been performing classic rock since 1991 and were also voted as the 2012 Best Local Band by the Top of the Valley Readers Poll and Don Thorp as the Valley’s best Vocalist. Pop artist to lead library workshop
Sweet Home Library will host a workshop with New York modern pop artist Michael Albert from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 1101 13th Ave.
Participants will learn about his art and make their own collage during the workshop. The event is free, but will have limited seating for ages 7 and up.

Low-cost athletic
physicals at SHHS
Low-cost physicals for athletes will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in the main gym at the Sweet Home High School.
Cost is $30, cash and checks are accepted. OSAA-approved physical forms required will be available at the event. Eye exams will also be given, so wear glasses or contacts as prescribed.
Lebanon ‘Paws’
walk Saturday
Build Lebanon Trails will hold its annual Paws on the Pavement dog-centered walk from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Marks Slough Trail off of Tennessee Road.
Dogs are welcome at many BLT events, but this is the one to which dogs are specifically invited. Dog costumes are encouraged but not required.
Local businesses that provide services for dogs and other pets will be on site to provide information about their services and products.
Participants must keep their dogs on leash and pick up after their dogs.
To get to the Marks Slough parking lot, from the intersection of Main Street and Wheeler Street travel east approximately .8 mile on Wheeler Street. The trailhead parking area is on the right. Look for the BLT Event signs.

In’ picnic Aug. 14
After 5 Connection will hold a “Reel ’Em In” picnic, to which both “ladies and gentlemen” are invited, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at River Park, 1235 E. Grant St., Lebanon.
Kent Toomb will speak about Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, an organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
Soloist Dan Mullenix of Lebanon will sing.
Guest speaker Russ Clifford, of Cottage Grove, will talk about how to have hope in tough times. Clifford, of Cottage Grove, owns Industrial Sales Co. and travels frequently. On one trip there was a
detour that led to the restoration of his marriage.

Scotch/Irish music
Matthew Gurnsey will perform traditional Irish and Scottish music at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Sunshine Industries at 1333 Clark Mill Road.
The concert is presented by the Sweet Home Public Library, admission will be free.
Health Fair has room for exhibitors
The third annual Sweet Home Community Health Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.
The fair will take place in the Sweet Home High School activity gym, 1641 Long St.
Health-related businesses are invited to register for a booth at the event by contacting Bob Dalton at (541) 367-5371. Booths will feature health screenings such as blood pressure checks, heel density scans, balance checks, dental checks, and eye checks for kids.
Also on hand will be information about the Oregon Health Plan and other insurance options.
Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Aug. 3, is ham and cheese or garden turkey mini salad on spinach Romaine, potato onion soup, whole wheat roll and peaches.
The menu on Monday, Aug. 6, is roasted turkey with gravy or barbecued smokehouse chop, Lyonnaise potatoes, broccoli, wheat bread and spiced applesauce.
The menu on Tuesday, Aug. 7, is white bean chili with chicken or macaroni and cheese, carrots, marinated zucchini salad, oat bran roll and fresh watermelon.
Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
