who needs help?
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires schools to make available special education to children from kindergarten through age 21 who are eligible for special services.
If you know of any child who could benefit from special help or who are not in school but may have a disability, please contact anyone at your local school.
The disabilities could include learning disabilities, intellectual disability, emotional disturbance, physical orthopedic disabilities, traumatic brain injury, hearing or vision impairments, speech or language problems or autism.

Living Well class
begins Aug. 23
Samaritan Health Services will host a Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop at the Lebanon Community Hospital.
The series will meet weekly from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Aug. 23.
The class is open to anyone with a chronic condition.
The six-session workshop will teach those with chronic conditions how to take control of their health. Participants will learn to manage medications, fight fatigue and frustration, deal with depression, start an exercise program, eat well and meet goals.
The Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop is free and does not require a physician referral.

Marks Ridge
Oldfield Road will play country and contemporary folk music at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 at the Marks Ridge Winery, 29255 Berlin Road.

Local star to play at The Point Friday
Trevor Tagle will perform Friday, Aug. 25, at The Point restaurant, 6305 Main St.
Also on the bill for this week are Slings and Arrows on Thursday, Aug. 24, and Rich McCloud on Saturday, Aug. 26. All shows start at 7 p.m. and all require reservations.
Tagle, a Sweet Home native, is a local rising star in the country music scene.
Slings and Arrows, a Nashville-based duo comprised of musicians Zach Broocke and Marlaina Youch, formed in 2014 and specializes in country and “soulful Americana rock.” Notable recent performan-ces include Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah), Hotel Cafe (Los Angeles, Calif,), The Bluebird Cafe (Nashville, Tenn.) and Jack Daniels 150th Anniversary (Lynchberg, Tenn.).
Guitarist McCloud, from Florida, combines soul, hip-hop, pop, and a fiery spirit to whip up a sound “like a combination of Tupac, Bob Marley, John Legend, and Nina Simone all rolled into one.”

haunts on hike
Follow in the footsteps of Ore-gon’s own John Muir, Judge JB Waldo, at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25 on a hike offered by the Sweet Home Ranger District.
The four-mile walk, which will be moderate in difficulty, will include stops at Waldo’s favorite campsites and fishing holes in the Cascades with historian Tony Farque.

Appreciation Day
at Farmers Market
The Lebanon Farmers Market will host a Customer Appreciation Event from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the city parking lot at Grant and Main streets.
The event will include music by Sig Paulson, cooking and educational demonstrations, a free souvenir photo booth, a special appearance by Mayor Paul Aziz, and an opportunity to win a $100 gift prize basket sponsored by Country Financial/Michelle Morford.
The first 100 customers to enter the prize drawing will receive a $5 cash token to spend at the market.
Lebanon blood drives planned
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 in the Wal-mart parking lot.

to reunite Saturday
The Sweet Home High School class of 1972 will hold their 45th class reunion from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Waterloo Park, shelter three.
Hamburgers, hotdogs, bottled water and tableware will be provided. Bring a side dish or dessert and lawn chair.

Hand In Hand
plans public events
Hand In Hand Farm invites the public to an End of Summer Celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at 35105 Ede Road.
Visitors can interact with staff and farm participants, and tour the facility.
Also, on Sunday, Aug. 27, Providence Vineyard Christian Fellowship and Hand in Hand Farm will host a potluck at the farm, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a cold dish to share.

LCSO vols seeking school supplies
The Linn County Sheriff’s Lebanon Substation volunteers are collecting items for two new teachers at Hawthorne School in Sweet Home.
Needed are pencils, glue, notebooks, paper, 15-inch steel rulers, dividers and classroom decorations for kindergarteners and fifth-graders. Items will be collected through the morning of Monday, Aug. 28, at the substation, 2590 S. Main Road.

Foster Dam Road
closure next week
The road over Foster Dam will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, and Tuesday, Aug. 29.
A crew will conduct a seismic survey that requires temporary removal of guard rails. The closure may end early.

Public invited to CCC Picnic Aug. 30
The Sweet Home Ranger District will host the 20th Annual public potluck picnic in celebration of the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 2907 starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the historic Longbow Organization Camp.
The celebration will begin with a flag colorguard opening the cere-mony, and a potluck-style lunch at 12:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish assigned with last names beginning with A-H a hot dish, I-P a salad, and Q-Z a dessert. Plates, utensils, napkins and beverages will be provided.
Longbow Organization Camp is located 23 miles east of Sweet Home via Highway 20, turn onto the Gordon Road (2032) after milepost 46 and continue for almost two miles. Those in need of transportation to and from Longbow should call ahead to reserve a seat with the Sweet Home Ranger Station, located at 4431 Highway 20 in Sweet Home, the shuttle will leave at 9:30 a.m. There is no charge.
Company 2907, formerly Company 1314, was organized in 1933. The members moved to Camp Cascadia, located along the South Santiam River east of Sweet Home, in 1934. While working in the Willamette National Forest, Company 2907 built 35 miles of forest roads and 80 miles of trails; installed 17 miles of telephone lines; built six fire lookouts and eight bridges; landscaped four acres of grounds near the Cascadia Ranger Station; constructed two large dwellings, an office building and a gas and oil station; and constructed House Rock, Fernview, and Trout Creek Campgrounds.
The men also spent over 7,000 days fighting wildfires.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Aug. 25, is chicken pastina or beef cabbage bake, cut green beans, spinach Romaine salad, sunflower seed roll and chocolate mint pudding.
The menu on Monday, Aug. 28, is orange glazed chicken or beef liver and onions, whipped potatoes, green peas, multigrain bread and peaches.
The menu on Tuesday, is western beef goulash or chicken rice bake, mixed vegetables, spinach Romaine sald, wheat dinner roll and lemon whip.
