Music, produce at Farmer’s Market
Sweet Home’s Farmer’s Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in the City Hall Parking lot at the corner of 12th and Kalmia, and will continue weekly at that time through October.
Vendors will sell produce, meat, fish and preserves.
Oregon Trail customers get an additional $10 each week.
Also, the market includes live music each week, thanks to grants from the Oregon Country Fair and the Linn County Cultural Coalition.
On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Kurt Smith of Corvallis is performing the music of American and Canadian folk singers.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, Seattle-based pianist/singer-songwriter Aaron English will perform world music-inspired folk-rock songs, as well as interpretations of traditional songs from African, Celtic and Middle Eastern cultures.
Final SHOP sale
this Saturday
The final SHOP (Sweet Home Outtasight Party) back parking lot sale of the summer will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, directly behind Trash to Treasure and across from the Fire Station in the 1000 block of Long Street.
Vendors of all sorts will participate and local musician Jobe Wolsey will perform. A food concession will be available.
Adults and children are encouraged to dress in hippie garb.
To participate as a vendor, sign up at Trash to Treasure, 1023 Main St. There is a $10 fee to participate.
Help in finding your family roots
Learn about your roots during Family Discovery Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2850 Grand Prairie Road SE, Albany.
The event is free and offers lots of training, help, how to and answers to questions on such topics as seeking ancestors, building a family tree, technology support and more.
It is recommended that participants bring a laptop.
Genealogical fair, used book sale
A Genealogical Fair and Used Book Sale will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in the Albany Public Library Meeting Rooms, 2450 14th Ave SE.
Books pulled from the Linn Genealogical Society shelves will be for sale, priced from 50 cents to $1. Cash is appreciated. Proceeds will enhance the Genealogical Society’s Research Room.
The event is open to the public.

Ballet studio offers free intro class
Want to learn ballet?
Cascade Performing Arts Center is inviting new students to try a class for free from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 800 Harrison St., Lebanon.
Age range is tweens, teens and adults. This class is for those who have never taken ballet before or who have some experience and are dancing at a beginning level. The class meets on Wednesday evenings at the center.

Museum offers
guided Denby tour
The East Linn Museum will offer a guided tour entitled “The Tale of the Denby Truck” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on two Thursdays, Sept. 8 and 15, at 746 Long St.
The Denby Truck exhibit will be re-opened during these times. Museum volunteers will be available to briefly guide you through the wild history of this unique item in our museum. There is no charge for this event but donations are always welcome.
Farmer’s Market Fall Festival Dinner
Sweet Home Farmer’s Market will hold its Fall Festival Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the VFW Hall, 580 Main St., in Sweet Home.
Authentic classic dishes using locally grown ingredients will be served. The menu includes salad with mixed greens and bread basket, Italian antipasto, lasagna a la fraga, assorted sweets for dessert and organic free-trade coffee and tea. Beer and wine will be available at the VFW cash bar.

Hike to Cascadia Cave Sept. 9
Sweet Home Ranger District is offering a hike Cascadia Cave Friday, Sept. 9.
This easy four-mile hike follows the historic footsteps of the Kalapuya Indians along the lower floodplains of the South Santiam River. Includes traditional uses of plants. The trail may be muddy. Come prepared for a day in the forest with lunch, water, appropriate clothes, etc.

SH Class of 1956
Class Reunion
Sweet Home Union High School Class of 1956 will hold its 60th Reunion Sept. 9-11 in various locations around Sweet Home.
Alums from the Classes of 1955 through 1960 are invited to participate in Saturday and Sunday’s activities.
An informal potluck for 1956 alumni only will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Roberts Park, 41041 Port Drive.

Brewfest, run to benefit B&G Club
The Second Annual Growler Cafe Anniversary/Brewfest will be held starting with the annual one-mile Beer Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 43 W. Grant St. in Lebanon.
The Brewfest officially begins at 11 a.m. This is a family event. Area streets will be closed down and beer from 20 different breweries will be served, along with live music in two venues, fun and games, and more. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam.

Forages breakfast Sept. 13 in Tangent
The Linn-Benton Livestock and Forages Breakfast Meeting will be at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Saddle Butte Ag, 31144 Wirth Road., Tangent.
This will be the annual Rusty Skillet Breakfast, with a new location and month. Topic is “Forages for Summer Grazing.” The program will include tours of local farms, led by Donny Wirth and Roger Ruckert, and visits by Oregon State University Forage-Livestock research and teaching faculty member Dr. Serkan Ates and Extension Forage Specialist Dr. David Hannaway.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Sept. 2, is chicken or tuna salad sandwich half on wheat bread, vegetarian vegetable soup, broccoli raisin salad and summer mixed fruit.
No meal will be served Monday, Sept. 5, due to Labor Day.
The menu for Tuesday, Sept. 6, is BBQ chicken or kielbasa sausage, both on a bun, baked beans, carrot Mandarin salad and zucchini brownie.
