Preparedness fair this Saturday
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will hold an Emergency Preparedness Fair from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 5th Street and Airport Road, across from Lebanon High School.
The event will include displays and information on how to prepare for and survive an emergency, including: 72-hour packs, first aid, shelter, water purification and cooking without power.
Demonstrations by ham radio operators, food samples made from food storage and smoked & BBQ meat will also be available.
All are welcome.
Host families for students needed
Families are being sought by two area organizations to host international exchange students for the upcoming school year.
ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is seeking local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries: Norway, Denmark, Spain, Italy and Japan, to name a few.
NorthWest Student Exchange is also seeking families in the Sweet Home area to host students.
Hosting a student can supplement educational and personal growth opportunities for children of the host family.

Folk duo to play
at Marks Ridge
Florida-based folk duo Jennings & Keller will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Marks Ridge Winery, 29255 Berlin Road.
Among the winery’s most popular performers, they specialize 21st Century Americana with influences in folk, jazz, and roots music.
Dana Keller is a veteran pedal steel, dobro, and guitar player, who has spent years performing on stage or in the studio with musicians such as Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Stevie Wonder, Larry Graham, Marvin Gaye, Dave Mason, Johnny Rodriguez and The Allen Brothers.
Laurie Jennings Oudin is a former Shakespearean actress whose clear voice and singing style has been compared to early Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris.
Bring your own picnic or snacks and enjoy open air seating at bistro tables or bring a chair or blanket.
The concert is one of a series of weekly Friday night offerings through August at the winery, which will feature a wide range of musical styles. Cover is $10 per person. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Polka music on tap at Farmers Market
Sweet Home’s Farmer’s Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in the City Hall Parking lot at the corner of 12th and Kalmia, and will continue weekly at that time through October.
Performing on Aug. 9 will be Cowboy Cadillac, a trio out of Harrisburg led by Richie Stiles, best known for its fusion of many musical genres – they can play just about anything.
The Polka Dots will perform accordion polkas and waltzes on Aug. 16.
Vendors will sell produce, pasture-raised chicken, lamb, beef and pork, wild-caught fresh salmon and steelhead, locally made preserves and much more.
Oregon Trail customers get an additional $10 each week.
Also, the market includes live music each week, thanks to grants from the Oregon Country Fair and the Linn County Cultural Coalition.
See ‘Zootopia’ free Aug. 11 in Sankey
The City of Sweet Home Parks and Recreation will screen an outdoor movie, “Zootopia,” at dusk on Aug. 11 in Sankey Park.
“The Goonies” will play Aug. 18.
Admission is free and the public is encouraged to show up early and enjoy the park. The movie is one of three that will shown over three successive Thursdays in the park. The others will be announced in future issues.

Diabetic foot care seminar offered
Dr. Priscilla Latta, clinic medical director from Samaritan Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Services, will offer a free seminar, Thriving with Diabetes: Caring for Your Feet, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
Latta will discuss warning signs, preventative care tips and how diabetes changes the anatomy of the foot.

Sweet Home High School Class of 1986 will hold its 30th class reunion, scheduled for Aug. 26-27.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try. Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Aug. 12, is Mexican chicken pasta or ground beef and potatoes, green peas, garden vegetable salad, herb roll and homestyle chocolate pudding.
The menu for Monday, Aug. 15, is beef mushroom or chicken patty, both with gravy, Delmonico potatoes, country trio vegetables, multigrain bread and zucchini brownie.
The menu for Tuesday, Aug. 16, is spaghetti with meat sauce or spinach cheese strata, mixed vegetables, tossed salad, French roll and Mandarin pineapple cup.
