Appointed Special Advocates will hold a volunteer information session

from noon to 1 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 890

18th Ave.

CASA

is a volunteer organization that serves abused and neglected children

who are in foster care. CASA volunteers are trained to advocate for

the best interest of abused children and help ensure they are placed

in safe permanent homes.

Free

celebration

for

local children

Little

Promises will host a free Christmas party for local children from 1

to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the school gym, 28028 Pleasant Valley

Road.

The

event is a collaborative effort by Little Promises, Mt. Calvary

Baptist Church and Child Evangelism Fellowship. It is part of a

nationwide effort is to reach kids across America with the true

meaning of Christmas. The focal point will be “the best gift ever

given…the birth of Jesus,” according to organizers.

All

children ages 4 through sixth grade are welcome to attend free of

charge. Parents are encouraged to come early to register their

children. Donations are welcome.

Holiday

musical onstage in Lebanon

The

Lebanon Senior Center will host a Christmas musical directed by

Shirley Austin at noon on Dec. 17 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 18.

The

public is welcome. Admission is free, but donations are welcome, with

$5 suggested and any amount appreciated.

The

musical, “Home for Christmas (Straighten Up & Fly Right)” is

set at the end of World War II, and the boys are coming home.

Their

sweethearts are waiting for them aflutter with love and impatience.

“Will

Bill and Johnny be the same standup guys they were when they left?”

Austin asks. “Will Lorraine and Dolores forgive a tiny indiscretion

and make them straighten up and fly right? Join us and find out in

this new Christmas musical.”

5K

race to benefit local healing farm

Hand

In Hand Farm will hold its inaugural Santa Dash 5k run/walk

fund-raiser at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Floral Courtyard at

the Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis.

Hand

In Hand Farm is a non-profit organization based out of Lebanon that

uses agricultural endeavors to help heal broken and struggling

families, people with disabilities, and troubled youth – serving

about 400 participants per year.

The

money from the run will be matched by an anonymous donor and used to

purchase a wagon which has been offered to HIH for a bargain price.

Registration

starts at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students

17 and under. Children 6 and under are free. Race participants

receive a participation certificate that can be redeemed for pony

cart rides given by Hand In Hand Farm. That certificate can be

purchased separately for those who do not want to race for $5.

Immediately

after the race, awards will be presented to the fastest runners in

the adult, high school, and elementary categories. The best-dressed

participants will also get awards, so come dressed up in your

favorite holiday garb. Categories include the best-dressed

participant for all participants and a cutest elf competition for

kids 6 and under.

Home

Sweet Home Cafe, at 1333 Main St., will serve Christmas Dinner on

Friday, Dec. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m.

No

one will be turned away. Those who would like to donate may do so.

Suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Everyone is

welcome.

Proceeds

will go to feed the homeless and local needy families.

Driver

education

offered

at LBCC

Driver

education courses start Jan. 4 through Linn-Benton Community

College’s Community Education Department.

The

course includes state-mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a

three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting plus 12 hours

behind-the wheel practice and driver observation.

Cost

for the course is $265 for ages 17 and under, $445 for ages 18 and

over. Students under the age of 18 may qualify for, upon successful

completion of the course, a car skills testing waiver when obtaining

their driver’s license.

Meals

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on

Wednesdays.

Suggested

donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea

upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The

lunch menu on Friday, Dec. 18, is beef patty with scallopini sauce or

roast pork with gravy, whipped potatoes, Capri blend vegetables, bran

wheat bread and candy cane cake.

The

menu for Monday, Dec. 21, is shoyu chicken or baked ham with orange

glaze, Lyonnaise potatoes, Scandinavian blend vegetables, cracked

wheat bread and pumpkin custard.

The

menu for Tuesday, Dec. 22, is roast turkey or meatloaf, both with

gravy, whipped potatoes, succotash, oatmeal bread and ice cream cup.
