Well classes in Lebanon

Samaritan

Health Services will offer a free six-week Living Well workshop on

Wednesdays through Jan. 13, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sweet Home

Senior Center, 880 18th Ave.

Participants

will learn exercises, nutrition tips and how to feel better about

life, as well as how to deal with pain and fatigue, decrease

depression and anxiety, manage stress, get better sleep, improve

nutrition and fitness and set and meet goals.

Developed

at Stanford University, Living Well workshops are designed to help

people with ongoing health conditions live better lives.

Each

participant will receive a copy of the book Living a Healthy Life

with Chronic Conditions. Different topics are discussed each week,

and the workshop is facilitated by specially trained volunteer

leaders.

Night at

Boys

& Girls Club

Boys

and Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam will host Family Night Out

from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Sweet Home clubhouse, 890

18th Ave.

The

event will include inflatables, Christmas crafts, a gift walk, an

appearance by Santa, cookie decorating and chili and cornbread.

are asked to bring a can or box of food to help a needy family.

Service will hold their 2015 Beef Industry Tour from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 10, at Springfield Golf Club, 90333 Sunderman Road,

Springfield.

Topics

to be covered include cattle reproduction and genetic management,

using the OSU Across-Breed EPD calculator, trace mineral

supplementation for gestating beef cows, economic impacts of estrus

synchronization, fixed-time AI in beef systems and use of genetic

tools in beef cattle selection.

Speakers

represent OSU, the University of Florida and the University of Idaho.

Cost

is $10 for non-Livestock Association members, which includes a pot

roast supper.

Christmas

Benefit

Sweet

Home Squarenaders will hold a Christmas Benefit and New Dancers Dance

beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Oak Heights School Gym

at the corner of 6th Avenue and Elm Street.

The

Plus will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by the dance from 8 to 10:30

p.m.

will be Jim Voll; Jackie Gale will cue.

A

potluck dinner will be served. Suggested donation for adults is $5

and $4 for youths.

The

annual dance raises funds for the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance

District’s Christmas collection for local children. A cash box will

be available for donations to that program.

‘The

Nutcracker’

Legacy

Ballet will perform a classic holiday production of “The

Nutcracker” Dec. 10, 11 and 12 at Linn-Benton Community College’s

Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

An

annual tradition, Legacy’s performance features adult and children

dancers from local communities. The dance company offers ballet,

jazz, hip-hop, modern and tap dance for ages 3 through adult.

Show

times are 7 p.m. nightly, with a matinee performance Dec. 12 at 2

p.m.

Tickets

are $12, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit FISH of Albany.

Volunteers

Day for Kids

Boys

and Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam is seeking “caring adults”

to volunteer for its Day for Kids, from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday,

Dec. 16 at the Sweet Home clubhouse, 890 18th Ave.

Volunteers

will have an opportunity to demonstrate “in a tangible way” that

the community cares about children and will be able to learn about

the club and its programs, as well as dialogue with a child. Service

clubs, organizations and businesses are encouraged to be part of the

challenge by recruiting volunteers

5K

to raise funds

for

Hand in Hand

Hand

In Hand Farm will hold its inaugural Santa Dash 5k run/walk

fund-raiser at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Floral Courtyard at

the Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis.

Hand

In Hand Farm is a non-profit organization based out of Lebanon that

uses agricultural endeavors to help heal broken and struggling

families, people with disabilities, and troubled youth – serving

about 400 participants per year.

The

money from the run will be matched by an anonymous donor and used to

purchase a wagon which has been offered to HIH for a bargain price.

Registration

starts at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students

17 and under. Children 6 and under are free. Race participants

receive a participation certificate that can be redeemed for pony

cart rides given by Hand In Hand Farm. That certificate can be

purchased separately for those who do not want to race for $5.

Immediately

after the race, awards will be presented to the fastest runners in

the adult, high school, and elementary categories. The best-dressed

participants will also get awards, so come dressed up in your

favorite holiday garb. Categories include the best-dressed

participant for all participants and a cutest elf competition for

kids 6 and under.

Court

Appointed Special Advocates will hold a volunteer information session

from noon to 1 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 890

18th Ave.

CASA

is a volunteer organization that serves abused and neglected children

who are in foster care. CASA volunteers are trained to advocate for

the best interest of abused children and help ensure they are placed

in safe permanent homes.

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.

The

Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time

diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested

donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea

upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The

lunch menu on Friday, Dec. 11, is scalloped potatoes and ham or beef

Spanish rice, cut green beans, tossed salad, rye roll and chocolate

orange pudding.

The

menu for Monday, Dec. 14, is sweet and sour chicken and rice or

pasta primavera, green peas, Asian coleslaw, cornmeal roll and

peaches.

The

menu for Tuesday, Dec. 15, is turkey or tuna salad sandwich half on

wheat bread, cream of broccoli soup, carrot raisin salad and cinnamon

apples.
