abstracts at LBCC
Art by Caprial Hope and Shannon Sullivan is on exhibit through March 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Hope is a Bend-based artist and recent graduate of LBCC. Her work is at Calapooia Center Gallery, and comprises two collections of paintings that include atmospheric landscapes with animals rendered in oil paint, and gray-scale paintings that explore iconic notions of romance and tension in relationships.
Sullivan is a Portland-based artist whose exhibit, “For the Time Being,” is displayed at South Santiam Hall Gallery, and comprises 10 oil paintings that merge abstraction and minimalism.
Traveler to speak
on trip to Spain
Local traveler Barbara Anderson will present a guided tour of Barcelona, Spain, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Brownsville Public Library, 146 Spaulding Ave.
The event is free and open to the public.
The skies will be sunny and the company cheerful. Anderson will present a tour of the ancient, cosmopolitan city.

‘Daddy’s Girl’ on stage in Albany
Albany Civic Theater presents “Daddy’s Girl,” directed by Scott Harvey, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15, 16, 22, 23, 28 and March 1 to 2, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, located at 111 First Ave. W.
Widower Benard Muloovy, proprietor of Maudie’s Diner, is served a full plate of comic chaos when his deceased wife, a talking portrait on the diner wall, enlists an angel’s services to reunite Muloovy with their long-lost daughter. The angel brings back two girls with the same name and birth date, and Muloovy must determine which one is his real daughter, though he doesn’t like either. With other turns twisted into the unfolding drama, there are laughter and tears, lines drawn, sides taken and rules broken.

Heritage Fair to
feature history
The 27th annual Frontier Heritage Fair is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Lane County Fairgrounds Auditorium, 796 W. 13th Ave., Eugene.
The focus of the fair is pre-1898 America, including mountain men fur trade, Civil War, and old west. The event features artifacts and replicas of the period, and a special exhibit of Oregon prehistory, and displays representing the Hudson’s Bay Company, historic Fort Umpqua at Elkton, the Applegate Trail and northwest coast native art.
There will be activities for kids and demonstrations of skills such as spinning, weaving, quilting, woodworking, horn carving and flintknapping, and performances by the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers.

Area lacemakers
welcome visitors
Oregon Trail Lacemakers meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Willamette Oaks Retirement Living, 455 Alexander Loop, north of Valley River Center, Eugene.
They meet every third Saturday of the month to make lace by hand (bobbin laces, tatting, needle lace, crochet, knitted lace). Guests are welcome.

Concert to feature cello and more
Willamette Valley Symphony will perform works by Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky, Bargiel and Chausson beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Ashbrook Independent School, 4045 Research Way, Corvallis.
Steve Pologe, on cello, is guest soloist to perform Chausson’s Symphony in B-flat Major. Also on the program are Saint-Saens’ Bacchanale from Samson and Delila, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, and Bargiel’s Adagio in G Major, conducted by Hector Aguero.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and over and students, and free at the door for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for season packages (four concerts).

Local Garden Club
plans Monday tea
Lebanon Garden Club will hold its February Tea at noon Monday, Feb. 18, at Santiam Place, 139 Main St.
Club members and guests will have a Valentine’s Day tea party, and Linda Zeidrich will teach how to make Tussie Mussies, a hand bouquet used in the Victorian era. Visitors are welcome to bring a favorite tea cup and join in. Members and guests may also bring tea party foods and/or $3 for Tussie Mussies, but is not necessary to enjoy the event.

apnea in free class
Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital hosts a free seminar on sleep apnea from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the hospital.

Small business
management class
Oregon Small Business Development Center offers a nine-month Small Business Management Class from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Linn-Benton Community College’s Lebanon Center Annex, 44 Industrial Way.
Business advisors will address issues relevant to owners who have been in business for a few years, including marketing, customer service, sales techniques, accounting and more. The class meets once a month, and includes discussions and advising that are personal to each business’ need.

Free Baby Blast Feb. 21 at hospital
New parents in east Linn County, who might wonder what resources are available for their baby’s growth and development, and for them as parents, are invited to the annual Baby Blast open house on Thursday, Feb. 21.
Baby Blast, a free baby shower-themed event, will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, conference rooms B-C. Parents of newborns are invited to drop in at any point during the event.
Sponsored by the hospital, Linn-Benton Community College and the Parenting Success Network, Baby Blast combines the fun of a baby shower with free health checks for babies. Representatives from several services in Lebanon and Sweet Home will be on hand with information about their services.
Prizes, healthy snacks and other refreshments will be available. Types of services with information at Baby Blast will include:
– Samaritan Health Services pediatric, OB/GYN and family practice physicians;
– Linn-Benton Community College, Family Resource and Education Center;
– Pediatric dental health;
– Community libraries;
– Medical supplies;
-Linn County public health services;
– Prenatal services and parental counseling;
– Early learning programs; and
– Physical activities and recreation opportunities.

Spring baseball
deadline Feb. 23
Kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam must register for JBO Baseball by Feb. 23 to participate in the summer season sport.

Meals on Wheels
weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Feb. 15, is chicken pomodoro or spinach strata, green beans, garden vegetable salad, whole wheat roll and gelatin jewels with whipped topping.
No meal will be served Monday, Feb. 18, due to the Presidents Day holiday.
The menu on Tuesday, Feb. 19, is creamed chicken and vegetables or beef patty with pepper and onion gravy, whipped potatoes, green peas, wheat roll and ice cream cup.
