SLCH plans Baby Blast for parents
New parents, who might wonder what resources are available in east Linn County for their baby’s growth and development, and for them as parents, are invited to the second annual Baby Blast informational event on Thursday, Feb. 27.
The free event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, conference rooms B-C. Parents of newborns are invited to drop in at any point during the event.
Sponsored by the hospital, Linn-Benton Community College and the Parenting Success Network, Baby Blast combines the fun of a baby shower with free health checks for babies. Representatives from several services in Lebanon and Sweet Home will be on hand with information about their services.
Prizes, healthy snacks, cupcakes and other refreshments will be available. Various organizations will provide information on topics such as dental and healthcare opportunities, early childhood education/intervention, family services, recreation for children, library services, and much more.

Friday deadline for Safe Sitter class
Pre-registration is required by Friday, Feb. 28, for a Safe Sitter babysitting skills class this spring at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8. Cost is $50, which includes an instruction manual, a messenger bag and other supplies. Hospital employees Roxie Snyder and Jessica Lybarger, certified program instructors, will lead the classes.
Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized babysitter education program, developed in 1980 by a pediatrician who was recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Upon completion, each student will receive a completion card and will have access to an online newsletter that features a babysitting survey, tips and activities to do when babysitting.

Museum to host Open House
East Linn Museum will host an Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at 746 Long St.
Visitors are particularly encouraged to view the new military display recently completed. Rearranging of work space has provided a larger area in which military uniforms dating back to World War I can be viewed. Also on display are documents, photos and personal items, some dating to the Civil War.
The museum is Sweet Home’s own record of local history, maintained entirely by volunteers from the community and supported by members with a desire to keep history alive.

Meeting to focus on safe streets
A meeting to discuss pedestrian and bicycle safety in the area round Sweet Home Junior High will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the junior high library.

Mustang lovers invited to parade
Into Ford Mustangs? To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its creation, a Mustang 50th Anniversary Parade is planned for April 12 at the Woodburn Dragstrip.
Organizers want to break two world records, one for the most Mustangs in a parade and one for the most Fords in a parade. Mustangs are expected from all over the Northwest, including Canada and Alaska. It will take 621 cars to break the record.
The event will include vendors, raffles, entertainment and plenty of Mustangs. Registration is required by March 1 for the parade to receive a free event T-shirt, though participants can register any time before the event.

High school art show starts Monday
Sweet Home High School’s Art Department will hold a reception to kick off its annual Art Month Student Art Show from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 3, at the school library.
The show will run through April 10 and attendees can vote on their favorite pieces, some of which may be available for sale, with 80 percent of the purchase price going to the artist and 20 percent to the Art Department. Also, winning student artists will receive cash prizes.
The display is open for viewing during school hours in the library.
The reception is free and the public is welcome. Appetizers will be served.
S.A.F.E. Bunco Party March 8
A S.A.F.E. Bunco Party will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Sweet Home High School Activity Gym.
Anyone 18 or older is invited. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners, and a raffle will be held, along with good food, lots of laughter and excitement. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Feb. 28, is mini chef salad or mini Krab salad on spinach Romaine, navy bean soup, wheat roll and vanilla pudding.
The menu for Monday, March 3, is Swedish meatballs or orange glazed chicken, whipped potatoes, broccoli cuts, bran wheat bread and poppyseed cake.
The menu for Tuesday, March 4, is scalloped potatoes and ham or turkey divan, cabbage and carrots, spinach Romaine salad, cornmeal roll and chocolate chip bar.
