Ladies night for B&G Club Feb. 7

A fund-raiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam will kick off with a champagne toast at 5:30 p.m., followed by an auction starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Boulder Falls Event Center.

This Ladies Night Out Purse Auction will help fund girl-centric programs at the clubs. Tickets are $35 in advance, or $45 at the door. For more information, call (541)258-7105.

Basic gardening

class at LBCC

Seed to Supper will hold six free basic gardening classes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Feb. 8, at LBCC’s Lebanon Campus, 44 Industrial Way.

Learn how to plant, grow, water, harvest and preserve your own food, and reduce your budget. A free textbook, seeds and supplies for classes are included.

B&G Club spring

Registration deadline for spring sports at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam is Feb. 9.

Indoor soccer for first through fourth grades will run mid-March to April. Cost is $68 for first and second grades, $73 for third and fourth grades.

Volleyball for third through sixth grades will run mid-March to April. Cost is $90.

Track & Field for second through fifth grades will run March to May. Cost is $73.

The Sweet Home Squarenaders are celebrating their 61st birthday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Oak Heights school gym, at 6th and Elm streets.

The square dance caller will be Jim Voll, and round dance cuer will be Jackie Gale. Birthday cake, ice cream and finger foods will be available.

‘Red Riding Hood’ on stage at LBCC

The 43rd annual Children’s Theater at Linn-Benton Community College presents “Red Riding Hood” at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10 and Feb. 17 at the Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

This fun, musical take on the classic children’s tale follows Bridget and Stephen as they sleepover at their grandmother’s house and pass the time by acting out their favorite story with things found in the attic. They soon discover what’s real and what’s imagined blurs together as they find themselves in the deep, dark woods with a wolf.

Sweetheart Run this Saturday

The City of Sweet Home Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its 5K/10K Sweetheart Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Sankey Park.

The “Sweetheart Run” is chip timed, and will include finisher medals and shirts.

A one-mile Kids Fun Run starts at 10 a.m. and is free for children 10 and under. The 5K and 10K start at 10:30 a.m.

Second Monday

gardening series

Linn County Master Gardeners and the Lebanon Garden Club will host the Lebanon Second Monday Lunchtime Gardening Series from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at The Lobby, 661 S. Main St.

Master Gardener Susan Morton will talk about mason bees and why they are so important.

The talks are free, and will be held throughout the year.

Foster Dam Road closures next week

The following road closures are required to support juvenile fish passage research at Foster Dam:

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13 (and Wednesday, Feb. 14 if needed), for divers to install underwater antennas on the dam.

Also from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 to install a new fish weir and stop logs in the spillway.

Maurine Bunce, owner of Alpaca Alley LLC and Knitty Gritty yarn store of Lebanon, will talk about alpaca and wool fiber yarns created at her farm that can be custom dyed.

Also, guest speaker Pat Smith from Mackay, ID will share about how she spent years looking for love in all the wrong places—Detroit, New York City, and a remote ranch in the Idaho mountains. Then, when she least expected it, love found her.

Symphony to play

Feb. 17 and 18

Willamette Valley Symphony will perform works by Copeland, Bloch and Schumann Feb. 17 and 18.

Concerts are at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Albany First United Methodist Church, 1115 28th Ave. SW, and Sunday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. at Ashbrook Independent School, 4045 Research Way in Corvallis.

Cellist Noah Seitz will perform in Boccherini’s Cello Concerto. Also on the program are Brahms’ “Tragic Overture,” and Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 “Spring.”

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and over and students, and free at the door for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for season packages (four concerts).

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Feb. 9, is homestyle turkey or beef mushroom patty with gravy, garlic whipped potatoes, Scandinavian blend vegetables, wheat bread and lemon whip.

The menu on Monday, Feb. 12, is baked chicken supreme or meatloaf with gravy, whipped potatoes, succotash, onion bread and seasonal fruit.

The menu on Tuesday, Feb. 13, is beef chili with beans or lasagna cheese roll-ups, whole kernel corn, spinach Romaine salad, cornmeal roll and vanilla pudding.
