Museum needs

more volunteers

The East Linn Museum will be closed during February. During this time volunteers will be catching up on several projects, including improvements to the mining exhibit. Special visits can be arranged by calling the museum at (541) 367-4580 or by emailing [email protected].

The number of hours and days the museum will be open beginning in March is dependent upon the number of volunteers available. In years past the museum had a volunteer director and such a person would be welcomed now, but there is opportunity for those who only have one day a month to give.

Genealogist to

speak about DNA

David Devin will speak on “DNA – A Non-Technical Presentation” to the Linn Genealogical Society at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. SE.

Devin will show how DNA test results can be used to connect with cousins, and add value to genealogy research. Genealogical DNA test results are another tool to help prove (or disprove) paper trail research. However, knowing how to interpret and use DNA results may be the biggest stumbling block to furthering research.

Devin will demonstrate how to use the tools provided on the testing companies’ websites to identify genetic cousins without exporting test results to a spreadsheet. While he will be using the tools on the FamilyTreeDNA website, the principles can be applied to other testing company’s tools.
