Linn County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants interested

in serving on the Historic Resource Commission or the Board of

Property Tax Appeals.

The

Historic Resource Commission has immediate openings for a three-year

term.

Peer

Court seeks teen volunteers

Are

you a young person with an interest in the criminal justice system?

Law enforcement? Maybe becoming a lawyer?

Sweet

Home Peer Court needs youth volunteers to help run the courtroom here

in Sweet Home. First time youth offenders cases are heard by a jury

of their peers and sanctioned by those same peers.

Peer

Court cases are heard on Tuesday afternoons from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. at

SHPD. You do not have to come to every hearing. Come when you can.

Applications available from SHPD or SHHS guidance offices.

Peer

Court service is open to any Sweet Home School District student at

least 12 years old and actively enrolled in school.

Volunteering

skills, provide scholarship opportunities and much more.

Hwy.

20 traffic may slow Feb. 24

Oregon

Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be removing

hazardous dead trees on Wednesday, Feb. 24, along U.S. 20

Albany-Corvallis Highway at milepost 7, and U.S. 20 Albany-Lebanon

Highway at milepost 5.

This

is a proactive attempt to manage safety hazards from falling trees

and limbs by removing them before they impact travelers.

Work

will be done during off peak travel hours, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

and trees will be felled into the right of way zone. Traffic will be

stopped briefly during initial cutting for safety. Travelers in the

area should expect occasional short delays throughout the day and

plan accordingly.

Squarenaders

plan Birthday Dance

Sweet

Home Squarenaders will hold their 59th “Birthday Square Dance”

at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Oak Heights School Gym at 6th

Avenue and Elm Street.

The

Plus starts at 7:30 p.m., with the main dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Voll will call square dances and round dance cuer will be Jackie

Gale.

BEEvent

to focus on pollinators

Learn

about ways in which bees and other pollinators can help your garden

and fruit trees at the Oregon State University Extention’s BEEvent

from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on March 12 at the Holiday Inn, 105 Opal

Court, near the fairgrounds in Albany.

Speakers

will discuss ways in which pollinators can help gardeners and threats

some are facing, including seminars on bumblebees and mason bees.

Vendors

will be present and snacks and drinks will be provided.

OSU

drama based on ‘Moby Dick’

“Boldly

Launched Upon the Deep,” a unique, radio-style live performance by

the AnyWhen Ensemble and featuring the Oregon State University Jazz

Ensemble, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the

Majestic Theatre, 115 S.W. Second St., Corvallis.

Part

chamber music concert, part radio drama and part literary reading,

“Boldly Launched Upon the Deep” is a collection of musical

dramatic episodes for chamber ensemble, singers/speakers and tape.

The work will use original music and text to present a contemporary

interpretation of Herman Melville’s classic novel, “Moby Dick.”

The

production is sponsored by the Oregon State University School of Arts

and Communication’s SAC Presents series in conjunction with the

Majestic Theatre.

The

production will feature McSweeney, Detrick and AnyWhen players Hashem

Assadullahi (saxophone), Shirley Hunt (cello), Steve Vacchi

(bassoon), and OSU Jazz Band and percussion instructor Ryan Biesack

(drum set). The Oregon State University Jazz Ensemble will also

perform.

Tickets

are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, all seats reserved. Majestic

members, seniors, youth and non-OSU college students, $15 in advance,

$20 at the door. OSU students will be admitted for free with a valid

ID card at the door while seats last. Tickets can be purchased

on Wheels weekly menu

Meals

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.

The

Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time

diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested

donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea

upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The

lunch menu on Friday, Feb. 26, is baked fish with Tartar sauce or

beef mushroom patty, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli cuts, French

bread and frosted orange cake.

The

menu for Monday, Feb. 29, is chicken chop suey or sweet and sour

pork, steamed rice, Oriental blend vegetables, marinated spring

garden salad and chilled pears.

The

menu for Tuesday, March 1, is turkey divan or macaroni and cheese,

cabbage and carrots, spinach Romaine salad, cornmeal roll and tapioca

pudding.
