artists’ work

exhibit at OSU

Giustina

Gallery, in The LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University, is

hosting the Albany Artists 10 x 10 art exhibit again this year. The

show will be on display through Feb. 19.

A

free public reception will be held Wednesday Feb. 3, from 6:30 to

8:30 p.m.

This

show is comprised of a diverse collection of two-dimensional work by

10 local artists. Each is showing 10 pieces of new work. New artists

in this year’s show include Bill Marshall, Lynn Powers and Mio

Streitberger. Returning artists are Molly Perry, Kurt Norlin, Marsha

Meidinger, Diane Wenzel, Rob Robinson, Billie Moore and Michael

Moore.

The

Giustina Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and

is located inside The La Sells Stewart Center on the OSU campus, 875

S.W. 26th Street. Parking is available in the Reser Stadium parking

lot across the street.

Genealogists

to

meet

in Lebanon

The

Lebanon Genealogical Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5,

at the Lebanon Public Library, 55 Academy St.

Steve

Bryant, retired Albany city manager, who has been involved with many

Oregon programs as a volunteer, will present a program about national

parks. Everyone is welcome.

Small

Woodlands

tree

sale Saturday

The

Linn County Chapter of Oregon Small Woodlands Association will hold

its annual Seedling Sale on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Santiam Building

at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road.

The

sale runs from 8 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.

The

seedlings are fresh from local nurseries and many are Oregon natives.

Conifer varieties will include Douglas-fir, Willamette Valley

ponderosa pine, noble fir, grand fir, western red cedar, coast

redwood, giant sequoia and incense-cedar. Hardwoods and shrubs will

include Oregon grape, Oregon ash, vine maple, nootka rose,

mockorange, red-flowering currant, sword fern and Douglas spiraea.

Most seedlings will be two-year old bare root or plugs, directly from

the nursery.

An

information table will be available to view samples, see pictures and

read information about the seedlings. An Oregon State University

Extension-trained master woodland manager will be present to answer

questions and provide information on which trees are best suited for

a particular planting site.

Local

wood products will be displayed and for sale. Vendors will have

native woods and wood products available for viewing and sale.

Portions

of the money earned will be used to help fund the Linn County

Chapter’s educational programs for youth in Linn County. These

include 4-H and college scholarships.

Genealogy

pro to

speak

in Albany

The

Linn Geological Society will meet at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in

the Albany Public Library Meeting Room, 2450 14th Ave. SE, Albany.

Professional

genealogist Hannah Allan will speak on “History for the Genealogist

and How to Use Historical Societies.”

Allan

is a graduate of Brigham Young University in family history and

genealogy graduate. She is genealogist for the Oregon Historical

Society and the vice chair of Portland Metro’s Cemetery Advisory

Committee.

She

teaches monthly genealogy workshops at OHS, along with speaking at

local and national events.

Her

program will focus on how to overcome genealogical road blocks and

flush out an ancestor’s story through general history.

Participants will also learn the value of historical societies and

how to use their resources to find records, answer questions and

write biographies.

After Five Connection will hold its February dinner event from 6 to

7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at King’s Coffee House, 661 S. Main St.

Valerie

Lacer of the local FISH program will talk about the needs in the

community. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food

item.

Guest

Speaker Tammy Ortung of Port Orchard, Wash., a military veteran who

served in Iraq who is now a teacher and public speaker, will share

her personal story.

All

women are invited.

Meals

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.

Suggested

donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea

upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The

lunch menu on Friday, Feb. 5, is BBQ chicken or kielbasa with

mustard, both on a bun, baked beans, pineapple slaw and banana

chocolate chip bar.

The

menu for Monday, Feb. 8, is homestyle turkey patty or liver and

onions with gravy, whipped potatoes, Scandinavian blend vegetables,

bran wheat bread and chocolate orange pudding.

The

menu for Tuesday, Feb. 9, is chicken patty or roast pork with gravy,

whipped sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, wheat bread and lemon whip.
