Well

Oregon
State University Extension Service is offering free well water
nitrate screenings for well owners on Sept. 7 in Brownsville.
A
portion of the Southern Willamette Valley has been designated as a
Groundwater Management Area by the Department of Environmental
Quality due to elevated nitrate levels in well water. It is
especially important for households with pregnant women or newborns
to test for nitrate due to a rare type of blue-baby syndrome.
For
a free nitrate screening, bring a half cup of untreated well water in
a clean, water-tight container. The test takes 5-10 minutes.
Tests
will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the
Brownsville Farmers Market, at the corner of Main and Park,
Brownsville.
For
other nitrate screening events visit the OSU Extension Service
website at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/benton and for more
