Foster students to

perform musical

Foster School’s fifth- and sixth-grade classes will present the musical “Metaphasia” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the Sweet Home High School Auditorium.

“Metaphasia” is a contemporary musical version of the Grimm Brothers fairy tale “The Twelve Dancing Princesses,” suitable for all ages.

Admission for the Wednesday evening show is $1. A 1 p.m. show will be held for local elementary students. The general public is welcome to attend the 1 p.m. show, if seats are available.

Theatre arts camp

auditions this week

The Lebanon Association for Theatre Arts will hold auditions for its Children’s Musical Theatre Camp at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, April 23 and 24, at Lebanon High School Auditorium. The camp will be June 19, 20 and 23-27, with performances of “A Blast from the Past” on June 27 and 28.

LAFTA is also holding auditions for its summer community show, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” May 19 and 20 at the high school auditorium. Performances will be Aug. 5-9.

LAFTA also produces a Christmas show and sing-along, which will be at a date yet to be announced.

Season passes are $17 and VIP passes, which include fast pass seating and free concessions, are $25.

Free weekly classes

for gardeners

Free weekly gardening classes, entitled Seed to Supper will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, through Thursday, May 2, at Sunshine Industries, 1333 Clark Mill Road, Sweet Home.

Seed to Supper is a free, comprehensive beginning gardening course for adult gardeners. At the first week’s class, participants will be given a gardening booklet that is theirs to keep. Master Gardeners Susan Morton and Sheryl Casteen will instruct the class.

Linn-Benton Community College Sweet Home Center is offering a number of classes beginning this week.

Computers – First Step will be held at 6 p.m. Thursdays, starting April 24.

The Paleo Diet: Eat for Health, a one-time class, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

Cake Decorating, a one-time class, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26.

Foster Dam Road

closed this week

The road over Foster Dam will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Tuesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 27, to conduct a dive operation related to fish research.

Little Promises

auction Saturday

Little Promises Children’s Program will hold a dinner and and auction beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the school, 28028 Pleasant Valley Road.

Cost for the pulled-pork dinner and all the fixin’s is $15 each or $25 for two. Childcare by Little Promises staffers, including a meal, is available at $5 per child. Each dinner plate purchase will include a door prize ticket.

RSVPS are requested for both adults and children by Friday, April 18 at (541) 367-4350.

The silent auction starts at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a live auction at 7.

Gospel concert

Saturday evening

A gospel concert will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Sweet Home Church of the Nazarene, 415 Holley Road.

SAFE rubber duck

race this Sunday

The 2014 SAFE Committee will hold a rubber duck race to raise funds for this year’s post-graduation Senior Alcohol-Free Entertainment party Sunday morning, April 27, at Weddle Bridge.

Cost is $5 and participants can buy as many as they want. The course will run down Ames Creek from Weddle Bridge to 12th Avenue. Players do not have to be present to win.

Cash prizes are $150 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third.

Nuns to speak at

Methodist church

Sweet Home United Methodist Church will host Sisters Alegria and Confianza of Amigas del Senor Monastery in Limon, Colon, Honduras at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

The nuns are on a speaking tour of the U.S. to share the realities of rural Honduran life and their monastic life. They moved to Honduras eight years ago to found the monastery. They will discuss the daily life of campesinos (rural poor), being immigrants, race and privilege, prejudice against monastic life, their spiritual practices, life in the country without electricity, and more. An offering will be taken for the work of the monastery and to help with travel costs.

B&G Club auction

to be held May 3

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam will host its annual spring benefit auction on May 3 at the Lebanon Elks Lodge.

The event generates nearly 15 percent of the organization’s annual operating budget and proceeds benefit programs and services in both Sweet Home and Lebanon.

Doors open and silent auction begins at 4:30 p.m. A prime rib buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 and the live auction will begin at 7:30.

Auction items include a NASCAR weekend package; trips, sports packages, tools and much more.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The lunch menu on Friday, April 25, is egg or chicken salad sandwich half on wheat bread, vegetarian vegetable soup, country coleslaw and mini frosted white cake.

The menu for Monday, April 28, is turkey divan bake or ground beef with pasta, chuckwagon corn, pickled beets, bran oatmeal roll and blushing pears.

The menu for Tuesday, April 29, is chicken marsala pasta or beef Spanish rice, country trio vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, multigrain roll and lemon pudding.
