offers scholarships
The Linn County Small Woodlands Association will be awarding four renewable $1,000 Oregon college scholarships to students graduating from Linn County high schools.
Application forms, to be returned by May 2, are available at all of the county’s high schools, at Linn-Benton Community College, and from Katie Kohl, LCSWA Scholarship Chair ([email protected]).
P.E.O. plant sale
deadline April 10
P.E.O. Chapter FA, Sweet Home, is holding its annual spring plant sale.
The club is offering annual and perennial bedding plants, organic veggies, herbs, planters, hanging baskets and more. All plants are Oregon-grown.
Pre-orders are being taken until Thursday, April 10, with delivery on Friday, May 2, in time for Mother’s Day.

Artists reception
at LBCC April 10
A reception and gallery talk featuring four women artists will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the North Santiam Hall Galleries at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
The NSH Gallery is exhibiting works by the four women artists, from Corvallis, Albany, Portland and Salem, through April 18. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
“Susan Johnson and Friends” features the work of Johnson, a long-time Corvallis oil painter and former director of the Corvallis Arts Center; Eileen Cotter Howell, a watercolorist from Salem and co-founder of Portland’s Art in the Pearl Festival; Kathy Haydon, an established painter and collage artist who lives in the Portland area; and Heather Kier, an emerging artist from Albany who has begun exhibiting around Oregon in recent years.
Saturday night Bingo for local kids
A Ham Bingo Night will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Sweet Home High School Cafeteria to benefit the SAFE Committee, Forestry Club and Calapooia Critters 4H Club.
Cost is 25 cents per card /game or participants can play all night (four cards) for $20. Concessions will be available.
The family event will include door prizes and raffle drawings. Winners need not be present. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.

dance Saturday
Sweet Home Squarenaders will hold a Gospel Music Square Dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Oak Heights School Gym, 6th and Elm, in Sweet Home.
The Plus begins at 7:30 p.m. With the square dance from 8 to 10:30. Andy Garboden will call square dances and Jackie Gale will cue round dances.
A pot luck will be held at the break. Suggested donation is $5 for adults and $4 for youths.

BLT to hold annual
Peterson Butte hike
Build Lebanon Trails will host its annual Peterson Butte Hike at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12.
The top of the butte provides some of the best views around the valley. A camera and binoculars are recommended. The hike will take around two hours and cover a distance of 2½ miles, with an elevation change of around 1,000 feet. There will be rocky surfaces and uneven footing. Be sure to wear footwear and clothing appropriate for the conditions.
By request of the landowners, please no dogs on this hike.
Meet on the north side of the butte; just about a mile west of the Lebanon Airport. At the bend, do not turn, but go straight on to Polly Farm Lane. Parking is limited; please carpool if possible.

Information sessions on the Degree Partnership Program offered by Linn-Benton Community College and Oregon State University will be held April 15 and 24 at LBCC, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Learn about this partnership program that allows students to access classes and services at both LBCC and OSU. Financial aid information will be available.
Session one is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the LBCC Fireside Room, 2nd Floor Calapooia Center.
Session two is at noon Thursday, April 24, in the Vineyard Mt. Room, 2nd Floor Calapooia Center.

Earth Day fair at
LBCC Tuesday
Celebrate Earth Day Tuesday, April 22, at the fourth annual Earth Day Celebration and Sustainability Fair at Linn-Benton Community College, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the college courtyard, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Learn about solar and wind energy, new automotive fuel technologies, bike transportation, recycling and composting. Take a tour of the college green roof and organic farm. Purchase fresh produce from the farm, and recycled metal yard art, made by LBCC’s Welding Club students.
Bring your old or slightly worn shoes to recycle through Albany First United Methodist Church Green Team booth. Plant some flowers at the LBCC’s AAWCC booth.
OSU Geosciences professor Ann Nolin will give a talk on climate change at noon in Madrone Hall, and LBCC Physics instructor Greg Mulder will give live demonstrations on climate change. The LBCC choirs and Poetry Club will perform.
Community information tables include the City of Albany Parks and Recreation, Pacific Power Blue Sky Energy Program, Republic Services recycling and composting, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ten Rivers Food Web, Earth Fort Corvallis, Ocean Blue Project, Master Gardeners, and more.
The event is free and open to the public.
Biz Expo to feature many local firms
Lebanon Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Biz Expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at The River Center, 3000 S. Santiam Highway.
The event includes free health exams, food and product samples, and over $3,000 in total giveaways, awarded every half hour.
Dozens of local businesses and service providers will be staffing more than 100 booths.

Skyline to donate
on 31st anniversary
Starting at noon on Wednesday, April 16, the Skyline Inn restaurant will split 31 percent of its profits between the Marine Corps Family Foundation and Meals on Wheels as part of its celebration of its 31st anniversary.
Marks Ridge Winery will be at the event for wine tasting during dinner. Anniversary cake will be available and musical entertainment is tentatively planned for the banquet room.
The restaurant also will accept donations for either program during the event, said owner Lynn Owen. The staff is donating a day’s wages as well.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, April 11, is southern chicken and rice or macaroni and cheese, mixed vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, bran rye roll and gelatin poke ’n’ pour cake.
The menu for Monday, April 14, is hearty chicken stew or lima beans and ham, herbed carrots, country coleslaw, white dinner roll and vanilla pudding.
The menu for Tuesday, April 15, is pasta primavera or beef cabbage bake, country trio vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, Caraway rye roll and chocolate chip bar.
