Lyrics on the Lawn Aug. 13 at The Oaks

The Oaks at Lebanon will host its annual Lyrics on the Lawn concert beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, on the front lawn at 621 W. Oak Street.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with music following from 6 to 9 p.m.

Cost is $10 for participants 10 and over.

The event includes music, good food, and beer, cider and wine on the lawn. Proceeds benefit the Alz-heimer’s Association / Willamette Valley Walk to end ALZ.

Friday night music at Marks Ridge

Marks Ridge Winery hosts its summer concert series at 7 p.m. Fridays at 29255 Berlin Road.

The performers for Aug. 14 are Jennings amd Keller, an award-winning, nationally touring duo, based out of Florida, who offer up 21st Century Americana with influences in folk, jazz, and roots music.

They fuse many different musical elements into a unique eclectic style that is refreshingly diverse. In 11 years of playing together, Laurie Jennings Oudin, a former Shakespearean actress, and Dana Keller, a veteran pedal steel, dobro and guitar musician, have released four CDs. They will offer up a program of fusion folk Americana.

Cost is $10 per person. Bring a picnic dinner, friends, blankets and law chairs. Wine is available for sale.

‘Abominable’ in the Park-ing Lot

Sweet Home’s City Hall will host Movies in the Park-ing Lot at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at 3225 Main St.

The drive-in style showing of “Abominable” is free. The movie is provided; you bring the snacks.

The movie will be shown in the back parking lot of City Hall, and due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be limited to 250 people. Attendees will need to maintain physical distance of 6 feet between non-household members.

Bands and Brews Saturdays in Plaza

Summer Bands and Brews takes place Saturday evenings in Strawberry Plaza, 847 S. Main St. in Lebanon.

Performing Saturday, Aug. 15, is the Gabriel Cox Band. The Salem-based artist and his group specialize in classic blues. Cox has been described as “an artist that deserves to rise to the very top.” He’s released two albums, the most recent, “I Surrender,” described in a Cascade Blues Association review as “a roots album of extraordinary merit.”

Performances begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Chamber awards to be held online

Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce will hold a Virtual Banquet Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19 on the chamber’s Facebook page and at http://www.sweethomechamber.com.

The chamber banquet was originally scheduled for March 14, but the arrival of the coronavirus put the event on hold.

Early arrivals who view the event live will be eligible to win the Early Bird Prize.

The event will include announcements of award winners “who have gone above and beyond for the community of Sweet Home.”

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Aug. 14, is turkey or tuna salad sandwich half, both on wheat bread, green split pea soup, broccoli raisin salad and pears.

The menu on Monday, Aug. 17, is sweet and sour chicken with brown rice or ground beef with pasta, broccoli, tossed salad, whole wheat roll and spiced peaches.

The menu on Tuesday, Aug. 18, is homestyle turkey patty with gravy or sliced ham with raisin sauce, whipped sweet potatoes, Italian blend vegetables, cracked wheat bread and gelatin jewels with whipped topping.
