Summer food
prep classes underway
Oregon State University Extension Service is
offering its summer food preservation and safety hotline for queries on testing
pressure canner gauges, ensuring jam sets properly and preparing tomato salsa.
The hotline at 1-800-354-7319 runs 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday through Oct. 11.

Summer reading
awards Wednesday
Sweet Home Public Library will wrap up its
Summer Reading Program with an awards ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the library,
1101 13th Ave.
Top readers will be honored and lucky
participants will go home with prizes.
Jamboree
kickoff 6 p.m. Thursday
The Oregon Jamboree Kick-Off Party will be
from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Sweet Home Safeway Parking Lot.
There will be a live remote with KRKT, live
music and tons of prizes. Also pick up a Window Contest judging ballot for a
chance to win 2014 Jamboree 3-Day General Admission Tickets and Sweet Spot
Passes.
NWVMC hosting
rock concert, BBQ
Northwest Veterans M.C. of Sweet Home will
host a Rock ’n’ Roll concert and barbecue at 11 a.m. Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at 1228 Main St.
Admission is $5. The band 3 Degrees Astray
will play live music on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight. No minors
are allowed in the Rock ’n’ Roll Arena. The barbecue dinner will be $8 a plate.

Sew Sweets
will meet on Aug. 3
Sew Sweets, a neighborhood group of
American Sewing Guild, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Linn-Benton Community College, 1600
Long St. Anyone who is interested
in sewing is invited to this free meeting. This month’s project will be making cute snowman pins from
buttons.
The American Sewing Guild (www.asg.org) is
a national non-profit organization dedicated to people who believe sewing is a
rewarding and creative activity.

Parenting
class set for Aug. 3 at LBCC
Success with Support, a breastfeeding
and parenting conference, will be Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
Linn-Benton Commuity College Benton Center, 757 Polk Ave., Corvallis.
Cost is $15 per family. Breastfeeding help
will also be available in Spanish. This event is sponsored by the LBCC Benton
Center, LBCC Parenting Education, the Parenting Success Network and La Leche
League of Oregon.

CASA
orientation is Monday, Aug. 5
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
will be hosting an orientation meeting on Monday, Aug. 5 from 12 to 1 p.m. at
the CASA office, 2122 1/2 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
CASA is a volunteer organization that
serves abused and neglected children who are in foster care.

Young and old are invited to to a Sweet
Home High School alumni baseball game at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.
A homerun derby will be held between games.

The Alzheimer’s Network presents a
discussion about taking care of yourself while serving as a caregiver on
Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 2 to 3 p.m.
at the Nest, 241 State St., Salem.
Guest speaker, Dr. Vicki Schmall, Ph.D., is
a Professor Emeritus in Gerontology at Oregon State University and Executive
Director of Aging Concern in West Linn.

Meals on
Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table
or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at
noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch
on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in
and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee
or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Monday, Aug. 5, is
chicken pastina or beef enchilada bake with corn, marinated zucchini salad, a
dinner roll and orange.
The menu for Tuesday, Aug. 6, is garden
chicken mini salad or crab mini salad on spinach and Romaine with potato onion
soup, a rolle and mocha pudding.
