at First Baptist
First Baptist Church is holding a 5-Day Club for children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade through Friday, June 27, at 2470 E. Main St.

After Hours event
at Sanitation office
Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly After Hours networking event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Sweet Home Sanitation’s new office facility, 1325 18th Ave.
The 2014 Sportsman’s Holiday Court will be in attendance and half of proceeds from the 50-50 drawing will go to the court. The event will also include door prizes, snacks and a business card drawing.

Blackjack Billy BBQ

Tickets are available for the Blackjack Billy Backyard BBQ and Auction planned for noon on Friday, Aug. 1.
Kick off Jamboree weekend with a barbecue lunch and a mini-acoustic set by Jamboree artist Blackjack Billy. Lunch includes two adult beverages, a commemorative reception poster and reception gifts. There is also a chance to bid on auction items, including a Jamboree VIP package.
All proceeds benefit the Sweet Home Community Foundation.

Food preservation
fair Saturday
A free food preservation fair will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Albany Senior Center, 489 Water Ave. in Albany, next to the entrance to Monteith Park.
The event will include information tables, two short workshops, food samples and printed handouts. Topics include basic canning methods and equipment, dehydration, fermenting vegetables, pickling with vinegar, making jams and jellies, root cellaring, freezing, making jerky, and the many ways to safely preserve tomatoes. For all who bring their pressure canner lids, master food preservers will provide free tests of canner gauges, which should be tested annually.

Lebanon fireworks on Fourth of July
The 11th annual Lebanon Community Foundation’s Star Spangled Celebration will be held at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon on July 4.
Gates open at 6 p.m. for thefamily-friendly old-fashioned celebration.
Activities include two concerts by Cross Stitch (a funk, soul, rock and jazz dance band) and Trevor Tagle, a local country western entertainer.
Other activities include a magic show, juggling demonstration, the Samaritan stay fit walk by the lake, and kids activities including bounce houses, face painting, free kids games, crafts and coloring, and food booths.
Finally, at dusk will be the Fire in the Sky fireworks featuring the always-popular Wall of Fire.
Bring chairs and blankets and come early to stake out your spot for the fireworks, festival-seating style. Picnic coolers welcome, but not pets.

Fund-raisers for
auditorium repair
The Sweet Home Auditorium Remodel Committee is hosting the SHARC Showdown talent contest on July 10 in the Sweet Home High School auditorium.
The group is attempting to raise at least $100,000 to repair, remodel and improve the high school auditorium.
Participants may enter by picking up a talent contest form at The New Era or on the SHARC Showdown page on Facebook and returning it to The New Era, 1313 Main St. They may be returned electronically to [email protected].

On July 30, Cloverdayle will perform at the Elks Lodge, 440 Osage St. Tickets cost $10.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, June 27, is chicken chop suey with rice or beef shepherd’s pie, cut green beans, country coleslaw, oat bran roll and peach cobbler.
The menu for Monday, June 30, is beef mushroom patty or ham croquettes, Colcannon potatoes, carrots, wheat bread and apple crisp.
The menu for Tuesday, July 1, is creamed turkey and vegetables or pork sausage gravy with whipped potatoes, broccoli cuts, whole wheat bread and chilled peaches.
