Walk to School Day
The Sweet Home Junior High School is participating in Bike/Walk to School Day on Wednesday, May 7.
Meet-up stations are set up around Sweet Home, and students and parents who plan to bike, walk or skate to school can meet up at the locations after 7:15 a.m. They depart at 7:30 a.m. Students and parents need to check in at the Junior High library by 7:40 a.m. for treats and prizes.
Meet-up stations include St. Helen’s Catholic Church, with Mark and Lana Holden; O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Josh Dargis; and Spoleto’s Pizza, Luke Martin.
Holley PTC to hold
auction at SHHS
Holley Elementary School will hold its annual auction from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Sweet Home High School.
Auction items include tickets to Disneyland, the Oregon Jamboree and Willamette Country Music Festival, gift certificates for restaurants, hotels and other entertainment, firewood, bark dust and much more.
A Philly cheese steak or chicken strip dinner will be available for $7.

Carriers to collect food this Saturday
U.S. Postal Service carriers in the Sweet Home area will collect non-perishable food during their annual Food Drive Saturday, May 10.
Food should be put in a bag by your mailbox and will be picked up and delivered to the local Seventh Day Adventist Church for local distribution. For more information, call (541) 367-6927.
Sale to help fund
homeless shelter
ChristWalk Ministries Thrift Shop is having a two-for-one sale through Saturday, May 10, on certain items and holding a raffle to raise money for housing the homeless.
The store at 600 Main, on the corner of Ash in Lebanon, is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Raffle tickets, for a High Tea for four at Mrs. B’s Special Teas, are available for $1 each or six for $5.
Dance Saturday to
benefit SHEDG
Dance the night away and raise funds for the Sweet Home Economic Development Group at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge, 440 Osage St.
The evening will include rock ’n’ roll music by Rockin’ Robyn, line dancing, a no-host bar, finger food, door prizes and cash giveaways.
Families are welcome. Cost is $7 per person with children under 7 free.
Food and drinks will be available at 7 p.m., with music beginning at 8.
The event is sponsored by SHEDG, the Santiam 4-Wheel-Drive Association and the Elks.
All proceeds benefit SHEDG.
Squarenaders plan
‘Wild West’ dance
Sweet Home Squarenaders will hold a “Wild, Wild West” Square Dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Oak Heights School Gym, 6th and Elm.
A barbecue dinner will be served at 7, followed by the Plus at 7:30 and the main square dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Square dance caller will be Leonard Snodgrass, with Jackie Gale cuing round dances.
Suggested donation for the dance is $5, and donations for dinner will be accepted as well. Western or casual dress is recommended.

The Linn County Livestock Association will hold its annual meeting and banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Brownsville First Baptist Church, 27910 Seven Mile Lane.
Producers and interested persons from both Benton and Linn counties are invited. The program will include dinner and presentations on “K-line Pasture Irrigation” by Anthony Knox of Pacific Ag Systems, Inc. and “Kalapooia Valley Grass Fed Processing, LLC” by Reed Anderson.

local women May 13
After Five Connection invites local women to “Damsels in Defense,” a get-together scheduled from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at King’s Coffee House, 651 Main St., in Lebanon.
Working women, college students, and moms are invited to come learn how to defend themselves. Cost is $7, no credit cards accepted. The guest speaker is Connie Knapp of Grants Pass, who once was a member of an award-winning pit crew for her husband’s world-record-setting motorcycle drag racing team.

Lebanon hospital offers HAM class
Anyone interested in learning more about HAM amateur radio, or learning to become a HAM radio operator, is invited to a free upcoming training series at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
The hospital and Linn County Amateur Radio Emergency Services are partnering on the training sessions. HAM radio has been recognized as the most reliable form of communication during emergencies and disasters.
The trainings will take place over four Wednesdays, May 14 through June 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. in conference room 3 at the hospital. While the training sessions are free to attend, participants will need to purchase an ARRL HAM Radio License Manual, which is available through Amazon.com. Anyone wanting to take the operator test afterward will need to pay a $15 registration fee for the test.

Elkettes to hold cancer benefit
The Sweet Home Elkettes are hosting a benefit for cancer victim AimeeJo, the daughter of Darrel “Boogie” Johnston and daughter-in-law of Marty Johnston.
The spaghetti dinner and silent auction runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge.
Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.

CASA to hold
orientation meeting
Court Appointed Special Advocates training will hold an orientation meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the CASA office, 2122½ S. Santiam Highway, Lebanon.
CASA is a volunteer organization that serves abused and neglected children who are in foster care.
CASAs are trained to advocate for the best interest of abused children and help ensure they are placed in safe permanent homes. Those interested in a meaningful volunteer opportunity that will make a positive impact in the life of a child are invited to attend.

Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce will hold a Lunch ’N’ Learn event from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Spoleto’s restaurant, 4804 Highway 20 in Sweet Home.
Bob Burnhardt of SCORE will speak on principles of running a business. SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.
SCORE offers expertise in accounting and finance, marketing and advertising, management, product development, insurance, business plan development and much more.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, May 9, is roast turkey or country fried steak with gravy, whipped potatoes with gravy, green beans and tomatoes, onion bread and chocolate fluff.
The menu for Monday, May 12, is scalloped potatoes and ham or baked beef rigatoni, broccoli and carrots, country coleslaw, cracked wheat roll, chocolate zucchini brownie.
The menu for Tuesday, May 13, is turkey tetrazzini or cowboy campfire stew, mixed vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, oat bran roll and rice pudding.
