Knitters, crocheters sought to make caps

Samaritan Health Services is launching its third annual Click for Babies campaign, to help raise awareness and prevent infant abuse during the normal period of infant development when babies cry more than any other time, sometimes inconsolably.

Beginning now and continuing through the end of 2014, knitters and crocheters are invited to create any number of purple colored baby caps and bring them to a Samaritan hospital where caps will be distributed to the parents of newborn babies.

The purple caps will serve as a reminder of the Period of PURPLE Crying prevention program, an educational program for parents of newborns at the five Samaritan hospitals located in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Lincoln City and Newport.

Purple baby caps may be dropped off locally at: Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, front desk, 525 N. Santiam Hwy .; at Samaritan Albany General Hospital, front desk, 1046 Sixth Ave. SW; or Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, front desk, 3600 NW Samaritan Drive in Corvallis.

Those interested in knitting or crocheting caps are asked to contact Joni Scholz, SHS perinatal educator, at (541) 768-6460, or visit clickforbabies.org for more information and a collection of baby cap patterns.

Parks cleanup event is Nov. 1

Volunteers also will prune low-hanging limbs, cut brush and pull English ivy, Goodrich said. Weeds are currently taking over the sidewalk and portions of the park.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves, although some gloves will be available for those need them.

Genealogists to

Linn Genealogical Society will meet at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. SE, Albany.
