Choir Spring Pops

Registration and rehearsals for the Lebanon Community Chorus’ Spring Pops Concert, “Young at Heart,” are under way Thursdays at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 3111 S. Main Road.

Rehearsals will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday, culminating in this year’s concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

All singers 18 and older are welcome to join the LCC, regardless of experience. Dues for the spring season are $20; scholarships are available.

Free ham radio

class begins

The East Linn Ham Radio Club is offering a free 6- to 8-week class to assist those who are interested in becoming a licensed ham radio operator.

Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Sweet Home Police Department’s training room, 1950 Main St.

Ham radio training manuals will be available for purchase at the beginning of the first class. This session is for the Technician License. Registration is required.

Vision loss support group Wednesday

The Mid Valley Low Vision Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Brookdale Grand Prairie Senior Living Facility, 1929 Grand Prairie Road, Albany.

Nathan Tierney, MA, rehabilitation specialist with the Oregon Commission for the Blind, will be speaking about transitioning from good eyesight to total blindness.

The Lebanon Public Library will host World Cultures and Travel, a photo presentation on Bhutan by local photographer Donald Lyon, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 in the community room.

Lyon, of Brownsville, has 40 years of travel experience and knowledge from his career as a photo tour operator. The event is free.

Community artists invited to display

Gallery Calapooia invites artists to participate in its first community-wide art show to be held in February.

The “Big Show of Little Art” is open to everyone and will celebrate the art of the Albany community and surrounding area. It is non-juried and free to enter.

Each artist may enter two pieces. All artwork must be 8-by-8 inches or, in the case of 3D, 8-by-8-by-8 inches. Art work must be hand delivered to Gallery Calapooia during these hours: noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21.

2D artwork must be ready to hang with a tight wire across the back at least two inches below the top. The wire cannot extend above the edge of the work and no sawtooth hangers are allowed.

3D work must be ready to display on shelves or stands. All works must be clearly identified on the back (2D) or bottom (3D) with the title, price and artist’s name.

A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2.

Bible study to start on life of David

A women’s community-wide Bible study video series, “The Longing in Me” by Sheila Walsh, will begin the week of Jan. 22 at various locations and times.

The six-week study focuses on the life of King David, and taps into the longings that only God can fill.

Studies are open to all women, and workbooks are available at the host churches:

Class offered on bettering health

A team of physicians and dietitians at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital will lead an 18-session Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) class from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays starting Jan. 22 through March 22 at the hospital for people struggling to get their weight or overall health under control.

CHIP is a lifestyle medicinal program scientifically proven to help people to improve their blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, BMI, sleep, resilience and depression. The class integrates optimal nutrition, exercise and behavioral psychology principles and tools to help participants achieve their health goals.

Rep. Phil Barnhart town hall Jan. 25

Rep. Phil Barnhart will hold a town hall meeting for residents of House District 11 at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Halsey Community Center, 100 West St.

Residents will have a chance to engage with their state representative, learn about what to expect from the brief session next month, and give their feedback about the issues of the day.

Representatives of the Oregon Department of Transportation will speak at the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Forum Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Career Training Center, 525 N. Santiam Hwy.

‘Pianist’ to play

at OSU Jan. 27

The School of Arts and Communication at Oregon State University will present “The Pianist of Willesden Lane” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Austin Auditorium at The LaSells Stewart Center, 875 SW 26th St.

It is a performance of the true story of a young Jewish musician whose dreams were interrupted by the Nazi regime.

Sweetheart Run Feb. 10 at Sankey

The City of Sweet Home Parks & Recreation Department will host its Sweetheart Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Sankey Park.

The event is chip timed, and will include finisher medals and shirts.

A one-mile Kids Fun Run starts at 10 a.m. and is free for children 10 and under. The 5K starts at 10:30 a.m., and registrants before Feb. 1 cost $20 per Sweet Home resident, $25 per non-resident; $13 per resident in a group, $23 per non-resident in a group.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Jan. 19, is roast turkey with gravy or barbecue smokehouse chop, whipped sweet potatoes, green beans with red peppers, wheat bread and marble cake.

The menu on Monday, Jan, 22, is turkey divan bake or vegetarian chili, green peas, pickled beets, dill roll and orange whip.

The menu on Tuesday, Jan. 23, is turkey patty or country steak, both with gravy, whipped potatoes, capri blend vegetables, wheat bread and peach crisp.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
