Frozen berry sale for scholarships

Sweet Home PEO, Chapter DD is offering freshly picked marionberries, strawberries and blueberries, flash frozen in nine-pound plastic pails as a fundraiser.

All proceeds from the berry sale provide educational scholarships, loans and grants to women in the local community.

Orders will be collected through Wednesday, July 10. Those purchasing berries will be able to pick them up in Sweet Home from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

Linn Dems to talk presidential picks

The Linn County Democrats will discuss the recent Democratic presidential candidate debates during their monthly general meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11, in Albany Public Library meeting room, 2450 14th Ave. S.E.

A social time, with light refreshments, begins at 6 p.m. The meeting will start at 6:30.

The Linn Dems held two watch parties in Albany during the debates. The 25 people who attended took part in post-debate polls, resulting in the following top-10 ranking: 1. Elizabeth Warren; 2. Pete Buttigieg; 3. Kamala Harris; 4. Kristen Gillibrand; 5. Bernie Sanders; 6. Cory Booker; 7. Bill de Blasio; 8. Joe Biden; 9. Jay Inslee; and 10. tie between Tulsi Gabbard and Andrew Yang.

Also on the July 11 agenda will be a push to fill a number of committee and subcommittee openings in the county party.

A variety of buttons will be available for sale before and after the meeting.

SH Rotary golf tourney Friday

The Sweet Home Rotary Club will hold its third annual golf tournament Friday, July 12, at Pineway Golf Course.

The tournament, a nine-hole, best ball, four-person scramble, will start at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $60 per person. which covers green fees, cart rental and dinner. All proceeds go towards the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Student Scholarships and world projects.

Last year’s winning team, from the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District and the Police Department, is challenging all comers to try and take their trophy away from them.

This is a great way to start the Sportsman’s Holiday Weekend.

Froggy to perform blues at winery

Blues guitarist Froggy will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, on the patio at Marks Ridge Winery, 29255 Berlin Road.

Cost is $10 per person. Seating is open-air at bistro tables, or bring a blanket and a chair. Patrons are welcome to bring their own food, but outside alcohol is not allowed.

Arts and crafts show in SH July 13

The Sweet Home Singing Christmas Tree will host its annual Arts and Crafts Show Saturday, July 13, during Sportsman’s Holiday, in the Sweet Home High School parking lot, 1651 Long St.

The event funds the annual free choir performances during the first full weekend of December.

Admission is free. Vendors from all over the Willamette Valley are expected to sell their wares. Food and drink will be available.

Local trails group to meet July 18

Sweet Home Trails will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Spoleto’s Italian Resturant.

Participants will discuss the future of the Sweet Home Trails organization. Future hike suggestions and event ideas are welcome.

Participants are asked to RSVP so adequate seating can be reserved.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, July 12, is chicken or egg salad sandwich half on wheat bread, minestrone soup, marinated zucchini salad and spiced apple slices.

The menu on Monday, July 15, is turkey apple meatballs with cider glaze or roast pork with orange glaze, Chantilly potatoes, lima beans, French bread and hermit bar.

The menu on Tuesday, July 16, is ham and Swiss or shaved turkey sandwich half on wheat bread, potato chowder, beet and Mandarin salad, and applesauce.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
