Pre-Jamboree show to feature Funk

Country singer Rhonda Funk will perform a free show from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Best Western Premier Boulder Falls Inn, 505 Mullins Drive, Lebanon.

The concert is presented by the Oregon Jamboree.

Attendance is limited to those over 21.

Free film classic

at Lebanon mill

Movies at the Mill presents a series of classic films on Thursday evenings in July and August at Scroggin’s Mill, 280 W. Sherman St. in Lebanon.

Movies are screened on the side of the mill, so shows begin when it gets dark, generally about 9 p.m. A food vendor will be available.

Thursday’s movie will be the 1941 comedy/suspence film “Topper Returns.”

Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Movies are made possible with a grant from the Linn County Cultural Coalition.

Movie nights start

Friday at church

The Sweet Home Mennonite and River of Life churches will hold Friday movie nights at 1266 44th Ave. beginning July 20 and running through Aug 24.

There will be free food and drinks each night as well as a free drawing for children 12 and under to receive a Veggie Tales movie.

This Friday’s movie will be “Radio” at 8:30 p.m.

Marks Ridge Friday

Marks Ridge Winery’s summer concert series continues on Friday evenings through August at 29255 Berlin Road.

Chris Valdez and Co. will perform “the best of the ’60s and ’70s this Friday, July 20.

Bring your own picinic or snacks and enjoy open-air seating at bistro tables or bring a chair or blanket.

Cover is $10 per person. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Comedy on stage

at Albany theater

The Albany Civic Theater presents the comedy “Bell, Book and Candle” July 20 through Aug. 4 at 111 1st Ave W, Albany.

The basis for a 1958 American romantic comedy film starring Kim Novak and Jack Lemmon, the play tells the story of Gillian Holroyd, just your average, modern-day witch, living in a New York apartment.

When handsome publisher Shep Henderson walks into her building, Gillian decides she wants him – especially as it turns out he’s marrying an old college rival. So, though witches can’t fall in love, Gillian casts a spell over Shep. But then she finds her powers in danger of being exorcised by … love.

County Fair runs through July 21

Linn County Fair runs through Saturday, July 21, at the Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road E, in Albany.

Senior Day on Thursday, July 19, features a Senior Ice Cream Social at 2 p.m. in the VIP Garden, as well as barrel racing at 6 p.m. in the Calapooia Arena and headliner Sara Evans at 8:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Family Day on Friday, July 20, includes a Bull Bash at 6 p.m. in the Calapooia Arena and headliner Jefferson Starship at 8:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Samaritan Health Day will be Saturday, July 21, and includes a car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Timber Linn Park, Wild and Wooly at 6 p.m. in the Calapooia Arena and headliner Lonestar at 8:30 p.m. on the Main Stage. Saturday is also the 4H livestock auction.

The Familyland area will include a new Bug-Ology exhibit, the K9 Kings Flying Dog Show and the Tangled State Show, which includes storytelling and songs for the whole family.

Other attractions include Puzzlemania, Bounce Village for kids, gold rush panning, a reptile show, a petting zoo, pony rides and the carnival.

Fair hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 60 and older, and free for children 12 and under. All concerts are free with general admission tickets. Limited reserved seating tickets are available starting at $15.

Stand By Me Day

July 23 in B’ville

Brownsville will celebrate its annual “Stand By Me Day” Monday, July 23.

The event, sponsored by the Linn County Museum Friends, commemorates the filming of the movie “Stand By Me”

Scheduled events will run from noon until 7 p.m., with walking tours, the music of The Uncaged Locals from 4 to7 p.m., Hula Hoop lessons, 4 Square, jump rope, matchbox races, Hopscotch, a classic car cruise in, the return of DaJoys delicious food truck, a ’50s costume contest, movie screenings at 12:30, 2, 3:30 and 5 p.m. and, of course, blueberry pie and ice cream.

Cowboy Cadillac to play at market

Cowboy Cadillac will perform Tuesday, July 24, at the Sweet Home Farmer’s Market in the square at 12th and Kalmia, in front of City Hall.

The band bills itself as “the Willamette Valley’s only countryfied band with an edge,” offering up “a hot and smokin’ country and rockabilly sound featuring creative and original music – where Bakersfield meets Nashville.”

Farmers Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. and features local vendors selling all manner of local produce and wares. Musical performers appear each week at the market, which is scheduled to run through the summer.

Free Medicare class

offered July 24

A free informational Medicare class will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon on July 24 at the Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, 1400 Queen Ave. SE, Albany.

The class, offered by OCWCOG and SHIBA, is designed for anyone who will be eligible for Medicare or is new to Medicare. Spouses and other relatives are welcome to attend.

This is an informational opportunity offered at no cost to community members.

Mennonite Village will host its 19th Annual Older Americans Day Celebration from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, July 27, at 5353 Columbus St. SE in Albany.

Activities include a Walk for Wellness, music, tours, free lunch and homemade ice cream, and more.

Forum Lunch topic

Former Samaritan Health chief Dr. Larry Mullins will speak about a recent trip to Antarctica at the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce Forum Lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Career Training Center, 525 N. Santiam Hwy.

The menu will be a hamburger and hot dog bar with condiments, potato salad, tossed salad, chips and cookies.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, July 20, is herbed chicken patty sandwich or sloppy joe on a whole wheat bun, baked beans, potato salad and pineapple peach crisp.

The menu on Monday, July 23, is chicken and penne pasta or beef Spanish rice bake, herbed carrots, spinach Romaine salad, herb roll and Mandarin oranges.

The menu on Tuesday, July 24, is lasagna roll-up with marinara sauce or western pork stew, broccoli, creamy cucumber salad, oat bran roll and peanut butter bar.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
