The
final Sweet Home Parks Department Music on the Green concert will be
Thursday evening, July 23.
Performer
will be blues musician Jake Blair of McMinnville. Blair is a
guitarist/vocalist who has performed professionally since 1999, when
he was 13.

Concert
for cancer victim this Friday
A
country music concert to raise money for cancer treatment for Sweet
Home native Raquel Gonzalez-Ndzeidze will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.
Friday, July 24, at South Pacific Auto Sales, 5040 Pacific Blvd. SW,
in Albany.
Featured
artists will be Sasha Belden, Lexi Tucker and local rising star
Trevor Tagle. Admission will be $10 for those 13 and over and $5 for
12 and under. Ndzeidze, who lives in Corvallis and works at Oregon
State University, is seeking to raise $65,000 for eight weeks of
treatment in Mexico.

Animal
Shelter to
host
2nd Dog Fest
The
Linn County Sheriff’s Office will hold its second annual Dog Fest
and open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Linn
County Animal Shelter, 3008 Ferry St. SW Albany.
The
shelter is offering a voluntary late fee waiver on all new and
delinquent dog license purchases. All adoptions will be offered at
half price for $50 each, which includes registration of the
micro-chip.
The
event will also include a $15 micro-chip clinic, dog washing, a pet
food give-away and a raffle.
There will be a dog show contest for
kids 12 years and younger (details will be given at the event). BBQ
hot dogs/sausage dogs and beverages are going to be served during the
event with generous donations made by Coastal Farm Supply of Albany
and Pepsi Cola of Corvallis.
Linn
County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy and Albany Police Department K-9
Officer will offer public K-9 demonstrations. C.A.R.E. Preventive &
Veterinary Services will be at the event to provide a low cost
vaccine clinic, as well as other veterinary services.
Donations
will be accepted and all proceeds will go towards the care of shelter
animals.
Dog
Training II
at
LBCC Albany
A
Dog Training Skills II class will be held at Linn-Benton Community
College in Albany, starting July 28.
Build on skills learned in
Dog Training I.
Skills
learned provide an excellent way to begin preparing for therapy work,
rally obedience, competing in dog sports, or taking the AKC Canine
Good Citizen Test.
The
five-week class will be held at LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd
SW on Tuesdays, from 6 to 6:50 p.m. starting July 28.
Cost for
the class is $39. Veterinary shot records and dog history form are
required.

of 1985
reunion
Saturday
Sweet
Home High School Class of 1985 will hold its 30-year reunion from 6
p.m. to midnight Saturday, July 25, at Pineway Golf Course.
Admission
is free. A no-host bar and food will be available.

on Wheels weekly menu
Meals
on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the
Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Fridays.
The
Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time
diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested
donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea
upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The
lunch menu on Friday, July 24, is fish patty with Tartar sauce or
sloppy Joe, both on a bun, baked beans, Mandarin pineapple salad and
frosted white cake.
The
menu for Monday, July 27, is chicken patty marsala or beef
Swiss-style patty, Delmonico potatoes, broccoli and carrots, oat bran
bread and chilled peaches.
The
menu for Tuesday, July 28, is chicken in peanut sauce with pasta or
beef stuffed green pepper, mixed vegetables, tossed salad, sunflower
seed roll and butterscotch bar.
