‘Mary

Poppins’ to play in Lebanon

The

Lebanon Association For Theatre Arts will stage an off-Broadway

traveling production of “Mary Poppins” opening July 30 and

continuing on July 31, Aug. 1 and 4-7 at Lebanon High School.

Doors

open at 7 p.m. and shows start at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 8, a 2

p.m. matinee will be staged, followed by a 7:30 performance.

Tickets

are $8 for seniors and students, $10 for general admission. Tickets

are available at Stainthorpe’s Music, Umpqua Bank, LinnCo Credit

Union, Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and the Albany Antique Mall.

Eat

breakfast, help local organizations

Several

local organizations are serving breakfasts during the Oregon Jamboree

this weekend to raise funds for their programs.

Sweet

Home Fire and Ambulance District, the Elks Lodge, the Senior Center

and Sunshine Industries are all offering breakfasts on Saturday and

Sunday, with the Senior Center serving on Friday as well.

Proceeds

from the firefighters breakfast go to the Sportsman’s Holiday

Fireworks Show.

‘Chickenstock’

in Brownsville

Vendors

from around

Oregon will come together in a sea of tie dye to sell

their animals, wares and homemade treats in Pioneer Park in

celebration of the fourth annual Chickenstock poultry swap from 9

a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in Pioneer Park.

Chickenstock is

one of four major events that comprise Brownsville’s Antique Faire,

which includes a car show and an antique faire.

Pick

up some new animals for your farm or backyard, learn how to make

soap, bid on items in a silent auction, choose the grooviest booth

and give back by donating food to the Sharing Hands Organization in

Brownsville through our Give Back Program.

Vendor

spaces are still available for $15 and a $1 Vendor Area is open to

those with five or less animals to sell. This event is free and open

to the public but due to bio security and the abundance of livestock,

pets are not allowed within the venue – service animals only.

Chickenstock

has steadily grown over the past four years to become one of the

largest four featured events in Pioneer Park the first weekend in

August.

Junk

Art Show at Brownsville gallery

Brownsville

Junk Art Show will be held Aug. 1-29 at Brownsville Art Center, 255

Main St.

The

show features art made from repurposed found objects. It is designed

to encourage artists to look at trash, junk and recycling in a

different way and to come up with unique and creative ways to deal

with waste in society.

Artists

are invited to drop off their work, made from repurposed objects, at

the Art Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 30

and 31. Participation forms are available at the Art Center. A

reception for the artists will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday,

Aug. 15.

Clear

Lake shuttle runs Aug. 8-9

Linn

Shuttle’s All Day Adventure Bus is running from Sweet Home to Clear

Lake, with stops at campgrounds and major trailheads along the way,

on Aug 8-9 and Aug 22-23.

The

shuttle service includes a trailer for bikes and equipment and allows

riders to enjoy all the recreational activities available in the

area, without the worry of getting there.

Free

Dry Farming Field Day at OSU

Oregon

State University Extension Small Farms Program will host a Dry

Farming Field Day from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Oak Creek

Center for Urban Horticulture, 844 SW 35th St. Corvallis.

The

free event will feature three 10-x100-foot plots that have been

established to demonstrate dry farming management practices in

several crops including dry beans, tomatoes, potatoes, squash and

melon. Varieties and management practices were selected based on

interviews with several established growers experienced in dry

farming. Soil temperature and moisture in each plot are being

monitored throughout the growing season at 6 and 18 inches.Absolutely no

irrigation has been or will be applied to these plots.

This

is a drop-in-style event. so you can come and stay as long as you

would like between 4 and 7 p.m. Amy Garrett with OSU Extension will

be present to talk about dry farming and have tasting tables set up

that will include dry farmed and irrigated tomatoes. This event is

open to the public.

Red

Cross to hold local blood drive

The

American Red Cross will collect needed blood supplies in east Linn

County in early August.

Summer

is an especially difficult time to collect sufficient blood to meet

needs of hospital patients. To make an appointment to donate,

download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or

call 1-800-733-2767.

Blood

will be collected in Sweet Home from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at

the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1155 22nd Ave.

Collections will also be done in Lebanon on Wednesday, Aug. 5, from

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Linn-Benton Community College, 44 Industrial

Way.

Classes

of ’53, ’54 to hold reunion

The

Sweet Home Union High School Classes of 1953 and 1954 will hold their

traditional reunion Aug. 14-15 at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge, 440

Osage St.

The

Friday evening activity will be a casual get-together beginning at 5

p.m.

Saturday

evening will include a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at

6:30 p.m. Dinner choice is chicken for $15 or tri-tip steak for $20.

Meals

on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the

Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Fridays.

The

lunch menu on Friday, July 31, is cancled due to the Oregon Jamboree.

The

menu for Monday, Aug. 3, is turkey divan bake or beef rigatoni, green

peas, marinated zucchini salad, white dinner roll and orange whip.

The

menu for Tuesday, Aug. 4, is Salisbury patty or pork choppie with

gravy, sour cream and chive potatoes, cut green beans, seven-grain

bread, and yellow cake with chocolate frosting.
