Chamber music at Marks Ridge winery
Violinist Marilyn Tyler, cellist Keith Scofield and pianist Bill Langston will perform a program of chamber music at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Marks Ridge Winery, 29255 Berlin Road.
Bring your own picnic or snacks and enjoy open air seating at bistro tables or bring a chair or blanket.
The concert is the first of weekly Friday night offerings through August at the winery, which will feature a wide range of musical styles. Entry is $10 per person. No outside alcohol is allowed.

Crescent Mountain hike this Friday
The Sweet Home Ranger District is offering a hike to Crescent Mountain beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, July 8.
Led by district botanist Alice Smith, this eight-mile hike will take participants through spruce and old-growth forests to sub-alpine meadows and an old lookout site. There will be a 2,000-foot elevation gain.
Cost is $10 per person or $5 with a Senior or Access Pass. Register at http://www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 and press #1 for tours. Tours often fill up quickly, so early registration is recommended.

PEO berry sale to fund scholarships
Local Chapter DD – PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is holding its annual berry sale.
This fund-raiser allows PEO members to provide scholarships to local young ladies seeking higher education. It’s a great way to help and the berries are excellent.
The nine-pound pails of flash-frozen strawberries, marionberries or blueberries are $26 each. The deadline to order is Friday, July 8.
Orders will arrive and will need to be picked up in Sweet Home on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Outasight parking lot sale Saturday
Sweet Home Outasight Party parking lot sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 9, directly behind Trash to Treasure and across from the fire station in the 1000 block of Long Street.
A variety of vendors will have merchandise for sale; local band Loki’s Labyrinth will perform; and there will be demonstrations with hula hoops and a full concession stand staffed by Little Promises.
Adults and children are encouraged to dress in hippie costumes, with prizes for best costumes.
To participate as a vendor, sign up at Trash to Treasure, 1023 Main St. There is a $10 fee to participate.
Soloist at Farmers Market Tuesday
Sweet Home’s Farmer’s Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in the City Hall Parking lot at the corner of 12th and Kalmia, and will continue weekly at that time through October.
In addition to produce, locally pastured meat, preserves and much more, the market features live music each week, thanks to grants from the Oregon Country Fair and the Linn County Cultural Coalition.
Jim Hershey will perform original tunes and familiar favorites with guitar, harmonica and vocals on Tuesday, July 12.

Free mental health training deadlines
Linn County is offering free Mental Health First Aid classes this summer.
Youth mental health first aid will be taught from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club. Registration deadline is July 11 and the class will be limited to 30 participants.
Older adult mental health first aid will be taught from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Samaritan Center for Health Education, 740 SW 9th St. in Newport. Registration deadline is July 11. Lunch will be on your own.
The course will teach participants to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders. It will teach skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem, or who is experiencing a crisis.
Those who pass the eight-hour training will be certified as mental health first-aiders.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, July 8, is rotisserie style chicken or meatloaf with gravy, Lyonnaise potatoes, green peas, wheat bread and fresh watermelon.
The menu for Monday, July 11, is breaded baked fish with Tartar sauce or teriyaki meatballs, parsleyed rice, broccoli cuts, marinated zucchini salad and cookies-and-cream pudding.
The menu for Tuesday, July 12, is roast turkey or homestyle pork patty, whipped sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, onion bread and ice cream cup.
