Summer meals available for kids

Sweet Home School District offers free lunch and breakfast for kids age 18 and younger at various locations during the summer, from June 19 through Aug. 23.

There is no cost and reservations are not required. Meals include fresh fruit, vegetables and milk.

Lunch is served from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Foster School.

Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Little Promises, at Pleasant Valley and Ridgeway roads.

Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Sweet Home High School, Hawthorne and Oak Heights schools.

Lunch is served from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Ashbrook Park, Northside Park and at the Skate Park on Long Street, next to the Sweet Home School District headquarters.

Breakfast will be served from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Sweet Home High School and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Little Promises.

No lunch will be served July 4-5 and Aug. 1-2.

Golf, basketball clinics for kids

The Boys & Girls Club in Lebanon offers golf and basketball clinics this summer.

Golf – Third- to sixth-grade athletes and local golf pros will meet from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, July 8 to Aug. 8, at Pineway Golf Course, 30949 Pineway Road, Lebanon. Register by June 21.

Basketball – Good fun and great skills training for third- to eighth-graders from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, July 22 to 26, at Pioneer and BGC gyms. Register by July 12.

LAFTA campers to perform musical

Lebanon Association for Theatre Arts’ Kids Camp will put on a public performance of “Critter Capers,” a show about animals incorporating music and poetry.

The camp, which is under way, includes some 60 children who will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Lebanon High School Auditorium.

The public is welcome. Admission is $5 per person.

Pioneer Picnic in B’ville this weekend

Brownsville will host its annual Linn County Pioneer Picnic June 21-23.

The event includes a flower show, on-stage entertainment, Moyer House tours and more over all three days.

Friday’s events include a kiddie parade, spelling bee and penny scramble.

Saturday’s events include the Wagon Train Breakfast, the Grand Pioneer Parade, Chicken Bar-B-Q, a horseshoe tournament, a talent show, a pie eating contest, a square dance and an antique tractor show.

Sunday’s events include a Memorial Worship Service, Logging Show and Pioneer Dam Run, along with a repeat of the breakfast and the barbecue.

Vintage trailer open house

Rollin’ Oldies vintage trailer group will have their annual get-together this weekend at River Bend campground.

The group, which hails from all over the Northwest, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, to which the public is invited.

Over 80 trailers will be on display, all built before 1980 or constructed with vintage trailer designs.

Dinner and auction at Little Promises

Little Promises Children’s Program will host a Taco Tuesday fundraiser from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the school, 28028 Pleasant Valley Road.

Cost is $8 per person or $30 for a family of four. Dinner will be three beef or chicken soft tacos, toppings, charro beans and a drink. Eat on the premises or take it to go.

A silent auction will also be held, including a Disney basket, movie night basket, gift cards basket, summer fun basket and Lego basket. Auction items will be on display all day, with winners announced at 7:30 p.m. Winners have the option of next day pick-up.

The entire proceeds will be used for purchase of sensory and educational materials for classrooms.

Share thoughts on local health issues

Samaritan Health Services will host a public listening session on Wednesday, June 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, conference rooms A-C.

If you live, work, go to school or spend time in Linn, Benton or Lincoln counties, you are invited to share your thoughts at the listening session about health issues in our local communities.

Feedback collected from this session will be compiled with results from Samaritan’s recent public survey on community health needs in the communities of Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties.

All information will be used to create the community health needs assessment and the community benefit implementation strategy for each of the five Samaritan-affiliated hospitals, which will help improve the health of our communities based on the communities’ feedback and input.

Theater camp to feature Seuss flavor

Auditions for Albany Civic Theater’s summer camp, featuring “Seussical Junior,” will be at 7:30 p.m. June 24-26 at 111 First Ave. W, Albany.

The camp will be July 29 to Aug. 16, and performances are Aug. 16-24. Tuition is $150. Some discounts are available.

Directed by Rebecca Douglas, the show combines Horton the Ele-phant, Cat in the Hat and other favorite Dr. Seuss characters in a fantastical musical extravaganza.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos and must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers.

B&G Club golf tourney June 28

The Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Santiam will host Golf Palooza from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Pineway Golf Course, 30949 Pineway Road.

Form a foursome, register and choose a tee time. Play early, play late. Tee times start at 7 a.m. and run through 3 p.m. Cost is $500 per foursome, which includes meals, two drink tickets and four tickets to the evening dinner and live concert. Lunch will be barbecue, with Les’s Chicken Dinner wrapping things up.

Timbers’ Joey to speak at lunch

Timber Joey of the Portland Timbers will speak at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual Forum Lunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Training Center, 525 N. Santiam Hwy.

The lunch menu is lasagna (meat or vegetarian), green beans, breadsticks, tossed green salad w/assorted dressings, and brownies.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, June 21, is turkey salad or egg salad sandwich half on wheat bread, vegetarian vegetable soup, marinated zucchini salad and pineapple.

The menu on Monday, June 24, is beef mushroom steak or roast turkey, both with gravy, garlic whipped potatoes, carrots, dill bread and zucchini brownie.

The menu on Tuesday, June 25, is tuna salad or chicken salad sandwich half on wheat bread, chicken pasta soup, creamy coleslaw and mandarin oranges.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
