Cowboy Cadillac

at Farmers Market

Sweet Home’s Farmer’s Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in the City Hall Parking lot at the corner of 12th and Kalmia, and will continue weekly at that time through October.

Vendors will sell produce, pasture-raised chicken, lamb, beef and pork, wild-caught fresh salmon and steelhead, locally made preserves and much more.

Oregon Trail customers get an additional $10 each week.

Also, the market includes live music each week, thanks to grants from the Oregon Country Fair and the Linn County Cultural Coalition. The June 21 performers will be Harrisburg-based Cowboy Cadillac, a country/rockabilly group led by Richie Stiles and best known for its fusion of many genres.

Chamber mixer

at Garden Center

Chamber of Commerce members and the public are invited to stop by the chamber’s monthly After Hours mixer at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Santiam Feed and Garden Center.

Bring your business card and learn about Santiam Feed and other local businesses. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be awarded.

Sock Hop dance at

SH Elks Lodge

Sweet Home Elks Lodge will hold a Sock Hop Saturday evening, June 25, at 440 Osage St.

The public is invited to enjoy a dinner of burgers and hot dogs, potato salad and old-fashioned root beer from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by dancing for all ages until 9. DJ Steve M will provide the tunes. Dancing after 9 is limited to those 21 or older.

The lodge will also host a car show during the event.

The event is a fund-raiser for building repairs to the Elks Lodge.

Hike Fish Lake to Lost Prairie

The Sweet Home Ranger District is offering a hike from Fish Lake to Lost Prairie beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, June 24.

Led by district archeologist Tony Farque, this hike will explore what early travel was like in the forest on the historic toll road that once linked the Willamette Valley to eastern Oregon. The four-mile hike will be mostly downhill.

Come prepared for a day in the forest, with lunch, water and appropriate clothes, etc.

Relay for Life in Lebanon Saturday

Relay for Life of East Linn County will be held from noon to midnight Saturday, June 25, at Century Park, 375 W. Rose St., in Lebanon.

An opening ceremony and survivor celebration will be held at noon. A luminaria ceremony will be held at 10 p.m.

Treasure hunts in SH June 24-25

Think you’re pretty good with a metal detector?

East Linn Treasure Seekers is holding two treasure hunts on June 24 and 25, at Community Chapel, 42250 Ames Creek Road, Sweet Home.

A Night Hunt will be held Friday, June 24, beginning with a potluck at 6 p.m., with the actual hunt starting at dark. Participants are asked to bring $3 in common coins to seed the field.

Two hunts will be held Saturday, June 25, the first a common hunt on a “heavily seeded” field. The second will be a silver hunt. Check-in time on Saturday is 10 a.m.

A clean-up hunt will be held at the end, open to all who entered the earlier hunts on Saturday.

Pre-registration cost for the common hunt on Saturday is $10 for club members and $15 for non-members, before June 15. Cost at the gate is $15 for members, $20 for non-members.

Pre-registration cost for the Silver Hunt is $25 for members and $35 for non-members before June 15. Cost at the gate is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Pre-registration cost for the clean-up hunt is $2 for everyone, $3 at the gate.

Overnight camping is available, with water and power, for $10.

Proceeds from this year’s hunts will go to the Kids Food Pak program which provides weekend meals to some 200 children in the community.

Last year the club donated $2,500 to the program.

Smart Driver class

for seniors June 27

AARP’s Smart Driver course, the nation’s largest driver safety course, designed especially for drivers 50 and older, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Sweet Home Police Department.

Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

Those who complete the course will learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate a vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. The class will also address:

– How to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots.

– How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car.

– The safest ways to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections.

– Proper use of safety belts, air bags, anti-lock brakes, and new technology found in cars.

– Ways to monitor your own and others’ driving skills and capabilities.

– The effects of medications on driving.

– The importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and using a cell phone.

Those who complete the course may be eligible to receive a multi-year auto insurance discount upon completing the course (consult your insurance agent for details).

AARP membership is not required to take the course and there are no tests to pass.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. The lunch menu on Friday, June 24, is turkey salad or egg salad sandwich half on wheat bread, ham barley soup, spinach Romaine salad and pineapple.

The menu for Monday, June 27, is beef mushroom patty or turkey loaf with gravy, garlic potatoes, seasoned carrots, dill bread and chocolate zucchini brownie.

The menu for Tuesday, June 28, is creamed turkey and vegetables or pork sausage with gravy, both over whipped potatoes, broccoli, bran rye roll and lemon whip.
