Free lunchtime
gardening classes
Linn-Benton Community Education will host two free lunch-time series at LBCC’s Lebanon Center.
Lunch and Learn Series will be held Mondays from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m. starting April 3 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St. A new topic will be presented each wee.
Gardening in the Pacific Northwest will help sharpen gardening skills and present new techniques. Taught by OSU-trained Master Gardeners, a different topic will be covered each week. Class meets Thursdays from noon to 12:50 p.m. starting April 6 at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way.

Driver’s training
classes at LBCC
Linn-Benton Community College Driver Education will offer classes starting April 3 in Sweet Home.
Classes include Oregon state-mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a one-time parent/student orientation plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation. Skills learned could be life-saving.
Cost is $265 for ages 17 and under, $445 for ages 18 and over. Upon successful completion, students under the age of 18 qualify for a car skills testing waiver when obtaining their Driver’s license.

Community classes
start April 3
Linn-Benton Community Education classes at Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers start April 3.
“Life Stories” provides instruction on how to recall family history in narrative style with detail, description and dialogue. Class meets Wednesdays from 2 to 3:50 p.m. starting April 5 at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost is $69.
“Quilters Workshop” provides different patterns to help create a quilt. Good for all skill levels. Class meets Thursdays from 7 to 7:50 p.m. starting April 6 at the Sweet Home High School. Cost is $29.
“Dog Training I” will teach the fine art of dog training. Veterinary shot records and dog history forms are required. Email [email protected] for forms. Class meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. starting April 6 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St. Cost is $49.

Blood donor events
in SH April 5, 11
Blood donors are needed during the month of April.
Donors of all blood types are needed this spring. Donations will be taken in Sweet Home 9 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at Sweet Home High School and 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Evangelical Church.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre=donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. ‘Animals’ art on
display at LBCC
An exhibit of mixed-media paintings and installations “As Animals” by Oregonian Brittney West will be on display through April 5 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
“As Animals” features origami figures and paintings exploring the concept of a compassionate coexistence between animals, humans, and the environment.
West, an artist and animal activist, has been in numerous exhibitions in the central-west region of Oregon and was named 2013 Best Visual Artist in the Willamette Valley by Top of the Valley Awards.
West’s work can be viewed online at brittneywest.com. A portion of proceeds will be donated to Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary, an animal rescue in Scio, Oregon centered on rescuing and rehabilitation. Information at lighthousefarmssanctuary.org.
SH Trails meeting,
hike this month
Sweet Home Trails Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Spoleto’s Pizza, 4804 Hwy 20, Sweet Home.
The topics will cover trail connections, the Oregon initiative, plans for group hikes, and trail maintenance.
Suggestions/input will be accepted through email.
The first group trail hike at “The Peninsula” on Foster Lake will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. Parking will be at Calkins Boat Ramp (Hwy 20 and Quartzville Rd).

Pinwheel Garden
at SHPD April 8
Sweet Home Police Department will plant a Pinwheel Garden at the Police Department at 11 a.m, Saturday, April 8.
Pinwheels will be available for sale for $1 each starting April 1 at the Police Department. All proceeds go to the ABC House to assure Sweet Home kids get to their assessment appointments by providing gas cards or transportation.
Walk for a Child event is right after the planting of the Pinwheel Garden. The SHPD will escort the walk from the police department to Safeway and back.
Wear blue clothing to the event. Bring strollers, wagons and bikes and walk in support of safety for all children.
No registration fees this year.

‘Chocolate’ dinner for women April 11
After 5 Connection will present dinner and a special program, “Showers of Chocolate,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at The Lobby, 661 S. Main Street.
The special program will be Kelly Reetz from Lebanon’s Victorian Chocolates who will share his expertise on the making of chocolate candy. Marlene Hall, soloist of Lebanon, will perform.
Guest speaker, Gale Lakey from Brookings, will discuss how the past hurts the present and how she cut loose her baggage to break free from a pattern of negative choices.

Easter egg hunt
April 15 at Sankey
The 26th annual Sweet Home Easter Egg Hunt will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, at Sankey Park.
The free hunt is open to kids 10 years old and younger. The Easter bunny, Sweet Home Rotary Club members, the Sportsman’s Holiday Court and the Sweet Home Junior High Interact club will hide over 3000 candy filled eggs. A number of eggs will contain special prizes from A&W and McDonald’s.
The park will be divided into separate egg hunting areas for different age groups. The event is sponsored by the Sweet Home Rotary Club.
Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, March 31, is tuna loaf with cream sauce or beef and potato stew, green peas, Romaine lettuce salad, bran rye roll and chilled peaches.
The menu on Monday, April 3, is beef chili with beans or chicken and penne pasta, cut green beans, marinated spring garden salad, seven grain roll and mixed fruit cup.
The menu on Tuesday, April 4, is beef Spanish rice or King Ranch turkey bake, herbed carrots, spinach Romaine salad, multigrain roll and cinnamon applesauce.
Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
