Season Tracker
training Thursday
Oregon State University Extension of Linn County invites Sweet Home residents to participate in Oregon Season Tracker Citizen Science Training from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 880 18th Ave.
Do you want to learn more about the microclimate of where you live? Do you want to contribute to our understanding of the weather and its effect on plants and animals?
Oregon Season Tracker “Citizen Scientists” help monitor seasonal patterns of precipitation (rain and snow) and phenology (timing of natural processes such as bud break). You will be helping OSU Extension and HJ Andrews Experimental Forest scientists develop a better understanding of weather and how it affects plants.
In this workshop volunteers will learn about the OST program and how to become a precipitation observer for CoCoRaHS; collecting rain and snowfall data used by the National Weather Service, climate modelers, emergency managers, and others.
It is easy to participate and suitable to involve your entire family.
All you need is a computer or smart phone to log in and record your data; a CoCoRaHS rain gauge, and a willingness to make regular rainfall observations.
Workshop cost is $35/per family which includes all materials and an approved rain gauge.
To register, visit secure.oregonstate.edu/osuext/register/995 or call OSU Extension at (541) 766-6750.
